Good Grip usually means you need softer compound tyres which are usually shorter lifespan than those of the average passenger car.

I guess I'll option for whatever is best for my price. I got recommended 215/40R18 for size, anyone heard of 'Forceum', they run around $130? They seem to be cheapy tyres...

In some circles they say they are an awesome cheap tyre, better than ku31 apparently. Even good for track days, but said to be shit in the wet.

Theres a shop which stocks them in brisbane and they swear by them.

Hey guys, I'm new to this thread. I need some help.

I'm currently driving a 2006 Honda Civic, and going to be purchasing a set of XXR 521 18x8.5+30, and I'm after a set of tyres. Basically it's only a daily car, and I doubt i'll ever use it for the tracks. So I'm after a good set of budget tyres, that will last long and has good grip. Also, I want the tyres slightly stretched for a nicer looks, any recommendations?

Please include the brand, model and size of tyre.

Price isn't a problem I get from whole sale, size is 245/40/17

Ok, well the S001s are RFT in that size, so they maybe harder/harsher than the normal S001s, downfall of RFT.

The RE002 can't available in RFT if that's something you're after.

RE002 is definitely the softer compound of the two so lifespan wise, the S001 will outlast it for normal usage. Performance well I've used RE002s and they're quite nice but haven't tried S001s though...

Hi bro, I didn't take notice where they were made...

There might be slight compound difference but you'll find the comments are made I think for RE001s and from different cars, the RE001/002 don't feel as flash on heavier cars [This is what I've seen and heard on the Toyota forums I was on] compared to the lighter cars, the Corolla/Celica guys loved them while the Camry/Aurion guys complained that it wore out faster and I think slightly harsh?

Yeah I think it's too much. 195 on 8" is pretty good. 185 though I doubt there's many tyre options for 15" diameter that would give you a strong enough side wall.

Honestly I'd recommend you not buy those wheels. 16" tyre choice is quite poor. The only tyre you have a hope of getting under the car without a lot of guard mods is a 225/45R16 on the 16x9, and even that is outside the manufacturers recommended rim width for that tyre and will be 'stretched'. You could fit a 225/45R16 to the 16x8 too, or perhaps a 215/45. Anything less than that will also be stretched. Also availability of those sizes is very limited.

Regardless of looks, RE050 are better than RE002 with regards to every aspect, esp to grip and NVH.

I bought new tyres 2 weeks ago, was gonna get RE002, but got Eagle F1 Assymetric 2s. Got a mate @ Beaurepaires, so they were only 192 each (215/45/17). A truly excellent tyre in all respects, handle better than the Bridgestones and have a wear rate of 300 (compared with 220 on the Bridgestones). Made in Germany too, they come standard on 911s for baller effect.

I used them for approx 10,000km and 2 track days. Sold them with approx 40% tread left and the new owner did another 5,000km & 3-4 track days.

Juat be careful with them, as when they exceed their operating temp, they wash off and you get nothing from them until they cool down a bit

I'm upgrading my Integra to 15'x7s and I'm not sure, Miata says these sizes are the same pretty much as the 195/60/14s on it in terms of rolling diameter. Michelin Energy XM2 205/60/16s... They're rated for 60000kms $175 a corner, but they have about twice the wear life of most tires. From most accounts I've heard they get it as well.

My EXP: Very good in the dry, but as soon as it rains, cant take corners fast or even at descent speeds as it locks the front outer brakes! Would never recommend these to anyone. For this price you may as well look into RS3/RE002. But these do look really aggressive, and gets street cred for being Continentals.

My Advise on how to bargain tires
Throw the competition against each other, before you buy take 1 hour the day before and call the major companies, Bob Jane, Kmart, Tyre Power, Jax etc etc. They will always uncut their competition! aka my RE002 they originally wanted $800 after calling around and coming back to bob jane i saved nearly $200 for 20 minutes worth of calling and googling numbers of the local branches around me. Forgot to mention, they even under cut their own branches for some reason, campbelltown Bob Jane and Livo Bob Jane lol could be helpful to someone in my area.

235 to 295 on an 8.5" rim, but it depends, how long is a piece of string? On a 40 profile I'd probably say at least 245 or 255, but then it depends on what car that you're putting them on for load rating and then it also depends on what your stock rolling diameter is. For an accord miata says 245/35/18 to keep the same rolling diameter.

I'd recommend upgrading to 195 for the jazz.

Costco prices are descent but they are set so no negotiating, not too sure about melb, but in syd I'd call all the major Tyre Places close to me and compare them against each other and tell em fake prices. They fall for it. You be surprised even same franchise different branch's will try to undercut each other lol.

The prices you have mentioned seems to me are advertised prices. Try calling the same place and tell em you can the GT3 for $160 from xxx shop. They will match it over the phone.

But then again you do get unlimited Nitrous refills at costco.

Also I would not pay anymore then $110MAX for ER/EP range from Bridgestone or even AE01 in the 15 inch size or even bother looking at them at that price you can opt out for KU31's.

I wonder how much of that was down to the 200 treadwear rating whereas all the others were a lot higher (240 or 280 - can't recall off the top of my head)

I'd like to see a durability comparison of those tyres as well, just to get the full comparison. Not much point saving $100 for a set of performance road rubber, only to have them wear out twice as fast as other tyres. Unless of course you're happy running around on 100 treadwear semi's (not that there's anything wrong with that)

140 and 180 treadwear give me around 30K with a few track days, Civics arent heavy cars, but yeah Id rather fresh rubber every year than run a tyre that will last 3 or 4 years and be a comprmised product.

Fair comments, although I don't necessarily agree that a longer wearing tyre is somehow a compromised product. I guess it depends on the needs of the user. That's the crux of the tyre test. Like anything automotive, they are trying to appeal to a wider audience. Not everyone buying off that test is likely to own a light car that gets tracked regularly. To some, a softer, faster wearing tyre will be a better compromise than a harder, possibly less grippy, better wearing tyre. To others, the opposite will apply, even if they still want a fairly high performance tyre.

At the end of the day, we all prefer to pay as little as possible for any products we buy. Sometimes cheap means nasty, sometimes it means economical, and other times it means good business sense.

That's all I was saying - make sure you understand the product and why it won. To some, the Maxxis will be perfect, but to others, the softer treadwear rating will be a compromise. As long as the buyer is aware of these factors when buying, then there shouldn't be a problem.

Im currently using, ran nearly 20K on the rears and 5k on the front set. Very good in the dry and wet.

Very predictable understeer.

Im running 215/55/17 - Paid 180 per corner installed and balanced.

I know someone is gonna say Im wrong when I say this, These feel better then the REE02 i had on before.

currently looking at 595 rsr in 205/45/16, either that or something similar around the $140-150 mark.

most people seem happy with it, and wet grip seems to be OK versus the 595 evo etc, curious on others experiences

rs-r are a wicked tyre for the price. really can't beat them in terms of performance per dollar. they get bad reviews in wet weather conditions but I found them very good in the wet.

currently got a set of ad08r, and in terms of street performance they are insane, not much competition from other tyres. stick like shit on carpet in the dry and are good in the wet too.

I have ran 595 evo in 195/50/15 they were pretty good.
next I had 595 rsr in 205/50/16 they were great until you get them hot and they get greasy, in the wet don't expect any kind of grip.
I've currently got hankook z222 rs3 in 205/45/16 so far they are fantastic, I haven't pushed them too hard just yet but they are a lot better than the rsr.

Just as an update. Changed from Conti Sport Contact 3 to Bridgestone RE003 and there is a world of difference in terms of road/tyre noise. With the CSC3, I couldn't even notice wind noise at 80km/h, but with RE003, all I can hear is the engine and wind noise.

In terms of grip, RE003 have a tad more although could be because the CSC3 were getting a bit old (4 years) although the RE003 haven't worn in yet. Compound is softer on the RE003 and tread blocks much more aggressive. CSC3 lasted me 40,000km on the CL9.

Got my set on too just over a week now,4 for 3 offer and really impressed.

Huge feel back to the steering even on slowturns and the car just feels pasted down,and they look like they are just waiting to hit the tarmac!
