Hey guys
I got a price on a turbo to day and I was wondering if it worth the price. The dude said he could do the kit for 5k

Here is what I get.
GT28RS
stainless log style turbo manifold
turbo lines
Blow off valve
cooler piping
gaskets
injectors
dump pipe
intercooler
emanage
vacuum hoses

I dunno if its good or bad, its def convenient to get everything u need in one kit.

Thanks

name that price tag on any US based forum and they'll go ape shit at you! :thumbdwn:

is that $5k for install too? if not well.. let's just say that that guy is a very good business man ;)

the GT28RS is a good turbo, but make sure your mani and d-pipes are of good design and suit your application, judging by the turbo you'll be making big power.

pm jimmeh, he'll fix you up with a turbo package.

I have to agree with that partly. My U.S. forum would more likely go ape shit if you bought a cheap kit vs. the 5k kit, unless it was a cheap Ebay kit that was a rip off! Remember you get what you pay for. Look for name brands and I hope that includes install. But 5k AUD isn't much compared to USD so I wouldn't complain as long as it wasn’t a cheap kit.

in the us, a gt28rs with a log manifold for $5k is horribly overpriced

a $5k turbo kit in the states is somethign like this

http://www.full-race.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=305

something with the gt28rs would be something like this... which will be much higher quality than what you're looking at

http://www.full-race.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=24_143_44&products_id=469

also, keep in mind that before you do anything, you're going to want to ditch that emanage for a real ems, so factor in the cost of hondata or whatever on top of the $5k

saxman and slow96GSR you boys have to remember that guy is talkn about 5000AUD
5000AUD = 3500USD

the full race packages are
USD4250=6000AUD
USD4999=7000AUD

dont forget shipping costs and customs charges. only the first AUD1000 doesnt incur customs duty. and customs slugs u hard.

Ya they do, and I took the conversion into consideration. But you should be able to find kits already there. I would hope so any ways. 3500 should get you a decent Greddy kit or a drag kit. Besides there isn't much to putting on a kit, it's the tuning that takes skills.

I know, I was just commenting on the post above mine.

Still, for a comparable set up out here, those parts would probably be closer to $2200 or so.

But us AUDM people dont have turbo kits like full-race or greddy readily avaliable off the shelf of K-mart(Walmart equivalant)
and to ship a kit over from the States doesnt cost the same as posting a letter next door.

I'd have to order the full race kits direct from them, just like anyone else... just a difference in the cost of postage/tax/import duty... availability isn't any different

Really?! I thought I could just drive down there and drop off a kit! LOL JK!! Yes I know shipping is more, but do your performance shops not stock things? If not I'll be there in a month opening a shop that IS stocked!!!

I recently received over aud$2000 of declared items from the states, and did not pay one cent of gst or customs duty.

Sometimes you get lucky; But saying that customs "slugs you hard" is far from the truth.

do u even know how customs duty is calculated. i have imported a few things and customs duty is very expensive.
they the customs duty like this calculate it liked this

saxman- i dont think u realise how expensive stuff is in australia. the greddy kit costs 4500AUD over here.
if u take the US value of something and you convert it to AUD then youll be nowhere near the price of what it costs in australia.

as well as the customs fees that jimmeh has pointed out, I also had to pay a brokage fee just to have them cleared, which took a further 3weeks. It took less time to ship from america then it did for the stupid guy to clear it.

even if you're paying ~20% between tax and import as shown there, it still seems like it would be way cheaper to buy here, and have ti shipped out there.
