I just test drove an ITR yesterday for the first time and found the steering to be quite stiff and heavy like a go kart.....is that how it is suppose to be? I use to have a Civic and the steering was so easy.

im guessing dc5r
dc5r steering is a little bit heavier
its how its meant to be
for better feel of the road etcetc

l'm assuming its a DC5 aswell. I also testdrove it and didn't really like how the steering wheel wus so tuff. I guess its better for road use whern its abit bumpy and uneven surfaces.
Also less "torque steer" issit?

Yeah I noticed then when test driving some DC2 Vti-R's - I have an EK and the stearing is heaps lighter and the gearbox is not as tight/restrictive. I reckon the stearing and gearbox in DC2's are heaps better IMO

So it is normal for it to feel that heavy?

yeah its normal.
After driving my mum's Vectra (...shudder), you almost feel that theres no power assisted steering that it almost feels wrong - but its not!
It gives you more control over the direction of the car, although its a bitch when doing slow maneuvors (sp?).

Yeah vince.. it's normal to feel that way :)
When I first test drove a DC2R i had the same curiosity like you... the steering wheel feels heavier compared to my camry. then i found out that that's just the way it suppose to feel and i got used to it and loved it ever since :D
If you still have a doubt.. test drive another DC2 :)

Isn't it the LSD that creates the heavier feel?
the LSD is suppose to be better in DC5R so its heavier ... more plates
dc5r has bloody heavy steering, but i love it. Makes driving with knees alot easier

hehehe, I never ever noticed that the steering was heavy at all, in fact the 1st time i testdrove a dc2r I was amazed at how great the steering felt in my hands......
Maybe that was because I had been driving around in a 1977 Toyota Landcruiser FJ40 (short wheel base softtop) and that was 2.5tonnes without any power steering....hehehehe

Coming off a Civic where you can steer with a few fingers the dc2r felt HEAVY haha. Anyway if everything works out i'll be getting the dc2r probably late next week :)
Hey Rexxy are the the same Rexxy on OCAUMC?

Haha actually i checked again and the other person's name is Rexxxy.
Another questions about the dc2r, is the clutch suppose to stiff as well? I'm reading a review on the car and it said that the clutch was light.

My Stock Clutch was always heavy....but I have a ceramic clutch now, and an ultralite flywheel (3.1kgs), stock flywheel is 9.1kgs.....so mine is very lite now.........

just a little thought.
the tyres were probably different and different tyre pressure to what you were used to in the civic. This can make a difference ;)
The Type-R steering is "heavier" than other cars like a Camry because it is meant to give the driver the "feel" of the road/track. You will get used to it. The clutch is also meant to be a little firm.
And LSD is not what makes the steering heavy. To find out what LSD is, go to www.howstuffworks.com and go to the "differentials" section. Enjoy! :D

stock v stock, the dc2r without a doubt (thats the Oz spec tho, the JDM spec dc5r is actually 1 second quicker around Honda's test track)
