View Full Version : this is what every turbo mani should look like!!
here are some shots of a turbo setup on a d-series engine.
it's an awesome custom job, it's from a guy based in canada.
why can't we get quality manifolds, dumptubes and dump pipes like these in Australia?!?!?!/!

only thing different is the wastegate really - that style manifold has been common in the US for awhile now - also check out "2MPRSS" eg civic - has the same style mani :)

the guy in canada does a few similar manifolds(he built my last manifold and we're talking about designs for my next one, so I've been spreading the word... how n/a found out about him)
and for those of you unfortunate souls that purchased an ssac manifold... something that'll actually work, and you won't have to change anything around

and in case, you don't want to go turbo, a very nice 4-2-1 exhaust manifold he does

Not made by a company, just an individual. Guy named Jay Thorton.
That's a really interesting little top mount for the lovefab manifold, although that wastegate placement isn't the best, and how it goes into the downpipe is a horrible design. You're just sucking down power by creating a ton of turbulence.

I know not everyone is as lucky as I am but I like as few welds as possible. So I would have made the same thing but used the mandrel bender to make the pipe. I have a friend with a computer bender so we make ours all nice! I am glad to see it coated not wrapped, but that's me! Almost a member and I will be glad to hook you all up with nice stuff! 4 days!

Interesting. I guess that explains the gains he got with the GT version.

I'll probably upgrade eventually but it's so nice as it is my needs are sated.

Theres a fella in 3rd avenue blacktown that can fabricate turbo manifolds similar to those.. I think its called Tonys or something similar.

the wastegate treatment on that manifold is sooooooo far superior than everything else posted in this thread...
my solution to the whole wastegate placement issue? use a turbo that doesn't have a wastegate

second photo you posted of the top mount on the H series motor, did jay thorton fabricate it? If not do you know of who did? PM me details, ive been looking for 4 months now for a H tubular that allows power steering to be kept.

those are the Hytech USA pieces... absolutely gorgeous and most inportantly, exceptionally functional.

that is one sweet manifold, im actually looking at manking one out of 321 stainless in the future, just curious, how is the turbo held up as there would be a fair bit of weight pulling the manifold down. any pictures of this? would this manifold keep a/c i guess it keeps p/s?

ok that HyTech manifold is the most sex manifold in this thread!
it is seriously influencing me to drop the N/A path...
the design is by far the best i have seen for the H also, anyone got a link for the site?
in reply to EGB18CT the manifold has practicality in mind and as most motors run their belts on the front of the engine you can keep both, thats why i love that manifold
EGB18CT
03-04-2006, 04:19 PM
thats what i was looking at too j-spec, manifold sits fairly high, so looks like theres plently of room below for p/s etc..., turbo is out to the side, buy looking at that pic, is the turbo being held up by the the little arm from the housing enough to stop the manifold cracking? that wastegate position is tops!
thing is how does this compare to the ramhorn? as in flow wise? any comparisants?
saxman
03-04-2006, 05:29 PM
well, if we're going to talk about tranny mounts, you can go to jay for that too
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/4/web/280000-280999/280589_269_full.jpg
basically, these are going to give much better high end power than a ramhorn(although a bit slower spool). Giving flow preference to the wastegate helps a lot with top end power, where as giving preference to the turbo will help with spool, but generally results in more turbulence and less top end power.

How do these stainless manifolds hold up on high hp applications 500-700hp.Cracking an issue?,especially around the turbo collector area's?
saxman
03-04-2006, 10:13 PM
the point of these are high hp applications... this isn't a manifold you'd run with only a little power in mind.
With a properly designed set up and a well built manifold, you shouldn't run into any issues with cracking, etc

lol @ running a 1000$ manifold on 7psi.
i'm yet to see pictures hosted by an aussie site that makes anything similar to these mani's..
i only see the option of sourcing from the states for a decent mani, unless someone can point me otherwise..
j-specAccord
04-04-2006, 10:16 AM
well the states tech is a bit futher advanced in the field of hondas so im guessing if you want a top notch manifold get it from there. not saying that there arent good shops here that can custom a manifold like these ones, its only you'll pay around the same price for a custom one anyway...
saxman
04-04-2006, 11:39 AM
how much would a decent quality ram horn(like the first one posted) cost out there?
j-specAccord
04-04-2006, 12:49 PM
no less than 800$ thats for sure.. piping alone would be 400, to have it mandrel bent costs alot. cut then weld would be too much in labour and it doesnt have as nicer result IMO.
matt you see what i mean?
bloody jay could do me an equal length mani a/c compatible with d-pipe for CAD$900. which is like $1000 ish..
only catch is shipping..

There are many guys and shops in Australia that can build products like that you are just looking in the wrong places.
PSI Performance Blacktown 0407 500540
Redline Motorsport Developments/Insight Motorsport Arndnell Park 9621 2411
Plazmaman Racing Wetherill Park 9725 1728
Online Performance Hoxton Park 9826 6602
Performance Manufacturing in Taren Point
And the guy that did AH_HUH DC2R turbo setup Dyno Dave said it was one of the best setups he has seen in a long time.To do a one off manifold is not cheap and you would pay from $1200-1600 for one of these and if you think it will be cheaper from a local forget it as the material costs go over $800 for each manifold + Labour.

The real difference is the size of the market. When I was looking around for a manifold no one seemed particularly interested in doing it. So to make it worth their while they quoted extortionate prices and lead times. I spoke to several of the shops listed above. In the US the market is 15 times the size so they can justify specialist shops for Honda turbo kits.
u guys should stop worrying about manifolds and start boosting :P
