hey guys jus turned 18 about to buy my car, im after a prelude VTIR but am stumped as to wether i would like a 4th gen or 5th gen model? hmmm new over old? or old better than new? i havent got a clue i like both models. any suggestions/reason?
ive been driven in a 94 VTIR and loved it!! loved the interior and speed... but i havent been in a 5th gen before.. are they simalar or is the 5th gen an even better experience??

Some people prefer 5th gen, some people prefer 4th gen.
I have a 5th gen and I love it. However, there are some cool features/interior designs on the 4th gen that weren't carried over - and likewise there are some features/interior layout designs on the 5th gen that are superior to the 4th gen.
Personally I would say, go and test drive one - there are heaps around at dealerships - but make sure you give a manual one a go, avoid the tiptronic unless you get a later model (like 99+) as there are issues with the tiptronic gearboxes.

the 4th gen is more of a fast car, the 5th gen looks so much hotter.dont get me wrong the 5th gen can be made fast too but it does have a lil more weight.
personally i love the 5th gen over the 4th gen, the seats in the 4th gen are much better than the ones in the 5th tho. i love my 5th gen and have never looked back!

yeah i could imagin sitting in the 5th gen and not feeling as low to the ground as the 4th gen.. i also found the seats in the 4th gen to be awesome!!! yet saw photos of the 5th gen interior and saw that those seats didnt look as sporty/hugging...? the 4th gen also feels pretty roomy in the front suprisingly too! does the the 5th gen? ps what colour are the dial lighting in the 5th gen?

amber colour lighting in the 5th gen, like an orangey-brown... as far as the seats go - they suck IMO... i havent sat in a 4th gen, but compared to DC2R recaros (haha) - the 5g lude seats suck EVEN in terms of comfiness on long trips!!!! (although the recaros hurt my neck, rather than my bum like the 5g seats) :p

5th gen has plenty of room front and back... 4th gen has almost no leg room at the bak

does the 5th gen have a sports mode like the 4th gen? does anyone have the 0-60mph times for prelude si and vtir?

the 5th gen might be a smidge quicker but dont forget the 4th gen has slightly more aggresive gearing so its easier to keep it in vtec for slightly less skilled drivers.
the only slightly "sporty" version would be the vtir with atts. which is not faster in a straight line but round the twisties kicks arse!5th gen has more room inside and the dash is an orange colour like menthu said.
at high speed the 5th gen feels sooo stable but when attacking the turns you kinda have to be aggressive with the steering due to it kinda wanting to follow the camber of turns.
ive never driven a 4th gen but u cannot be dissapointed with the 5th gen.
drive both and your heart will tell you what to do

some 4th gen are havin trouble keepin up with my stock 5th gen???
4th gen just has more cheaper aftermarket gears to work with.
keep in mind the few g's price difference, u could use those for further mods in the 4th gen ^^

i got a 4th gen and all i can say is that you won't be disappointed..... but a 5th gen with the lip kit... "drooolz"
i guess it comes to personal preference...... but if you got the dosh for a 5th gen.... why not?? if i enuff dosh i would too..... if you haven't looked already, 5th gens prices are still up there if you want a mint one...

oh dude, i eat most 4th gens that try and give me a run but stock for stock its pretty much even, the better driver would win.

haha
well CUL8R , ive never lost to a 5th gen ... :P ... even stock for stock i Pick them apart! ahaha but prolly shit drivers ..
in a straight line anwayz , yeah a 5th gen isnt much of a challenge. btw i have a 4th gen VTiR... and i much prefer them over the 5th gen , in terms of looks exterior and exterior and straight line speed. Stock handling on 5th gen is better tho .
The only bad thing bout the 4th gen vtir's is they are really rare, and its really hard to find a low k's good nick one ..
Its up to u , the 4th gen can be made to look aggressive and sporty , the 5th gen can be made to look like a pimped cruiser .. oh and there would prolly be less rattles in the 5th gen, but nothing a lil felt can't fix up .

hehe yeah tim i rekn us 2 would be right on the same speed just this fkn ignition issue is killing me!!!
it might be me needing to change to OBD1 coz my cars "learning" and my mods, thats where 4th gens are in a good boat.

CUL8r, are you saying your car is faster than stock standard 94-96 Vtir, seems pretty stock in your profile so I wouldnt quite go so far as eat..;)
is this going to be your first car?
since you've just turned 18
i think its best to get a 4th gen, atleast that way you can save yourself that extra cash, and put it towards insurance, whereas the more experienced drivers would go for 5th gen cause they know how to look after a car.. u learn alot from wrecking your first car in my opinion lol
but yeah, getting some super hectic fast exhilerating first car is cool, but best off to start off with something less and build your way up
plus, 4th gens rule! its the most unique car in the worlddd!! lol

done and done coz mate, that dyno read very generous if u pulled 114 basically stock. mine is on a very safe tune and im sure unless u got some sort tuning (vafc, hondata) ill have you from 4500 rpm.
next time i go to calder ill give u a PM and we'll go for a REAL run. none of these short burst street stuff.
on another note what are the chances that ur VTIR from Prelude Australia? coz u have the exact same avatar.

ive got a 1996 4th gen vtir with 123000 something on the clock
i picked it up for 13250 off and 55 year old guy that barely drove it without a scratch on it. All it needed was regas air con
Find a neat freak person and the car will be looked after also nrma check it.
look around be patient you will find good deals on both models it took me 3 months to find a good one (but im picky).
but you gotta get vtir :D
ive chopped gti swift, mx6, non turbo skyline, non turbo supra and a 5th gen vtir prelude and a SSS and im stock.

114kw? 5th gens hardly move, was this including the mechanical drag for a flywheel figure? at least if you're gonna BS show us some dyno print outs
tim how much kw is your car atw? does it run 114kw stock? is it a type T? :D

yep its a Type T, hrmm atw ... not too sure atm. with the vafc pulled out n everything
with it all tuned up its prolly making 115kw atw. we'll say 110 - 120 hehe ... but yeah after my service i'll prolly chuck the vafc in and retune n shit , and show u all some dyno plots.
and about thrust and his 114kw. i dont think he's BSing, im just saying he was on a generous dyno.
even DMT got 114 with just filter and cat back (maybe just muffler not sure) and yeah everybody on that particular dyno day was reading maybe 10% above normal.

I've got both a 94model JDM si-vtec h22a and 99 VTIR with h22z.
I always thought the 4th gen was faster, as I bet alot of 5th gen's before I got mine. If your gonna buy a 5th gen, get a 99model and above, it has more torque than 97,98models. I would say my 5th gen prelude is quickier even though its heavier.
