Hey guys,
Got a bit of a problem here, a couple of months ago after doing a service on my car i checked the fuse box under the bonnet and noticed the ECU fuse had blown (car was running fine though?), after replacing it with a new 7.5A fuse i went for a drive checked the fuse and it was a-ok.

Anyway... yesterday i was checking my fluids so i decided to have another look at the fuses, ECU fuse was blown again. It is only the one under the bonnet too, the in-car fuse (think its fuse #18 which is also for the ECU is fine).

What could be causing the fuse to keep blowing and it is a problem?
(94 EG VTi, D16Y1, no ECU mods, only addition to the electrical system is an immobiliser/alarm system.)

I've tried searching but cant seem to find any answers, thanks for reading! :>

maybe the ground on your ECU isnt secure.

Could well be this although others seem to think that there is no need to ground the ECU.

Thanks for the replies, where exactly is the ecu ground?

well i've had a few of these issues b4

everytim i touch the ECU. (take it out of its bolted position. the car will act all funny and the engine would die.
as sonn as i bolted it back on. the car was normal again.
so i am guessin by bolting it securely it' acts as a ground for the ECU.

Dont think so Danny boy...My ECU at the moment is just lying under the passenger carpet flat... Not one problem yet... Dont think its that...

The ECU is already grounded,
Additionally, bolting to the chassis acts as a heat sink.

When i originally purchased the car it was under the carpet, i have since re-mounted it.

Anything else that could possibly cause the problem? And what does the fuse actually do? Since i know removing it/putting it back in reverts the ECU to defaults, would the fuse being blown stop the ECU from 'remembering' anything (ie, it would always stay at defaults?)

Is there a chance of when i performed the h22a conversion in my car i somehow removed the ground from the ecu?

the last fault code we chased was the ELD so I connected an ELD to the ecu wiring it up as per the h22a workshop manual but still got an ELD fault code even after we trouble shooted the wiring for the ELD even though it was hooked up correctly.

Since bolting my ecu to the floor the ELD fault code has dissapeared! Why has this happened? The only explanation is that my ecu wasnt properly grounded in the 1st place.

The ECU fuse under the bonnet is the 'memory' fuse with constant power to the ECU, regardless of ignition key position.

I suspect that it also powers the hazards lights from memory(and a few other circuits??)

Remove the 7.5A fuse under the bonnet and check you hazard lights... Maybe the problem is in the wiring for the hazards?

the ECU has 2 types of ground

a ground that comes from one of the 401 earth points, ( mainly the thermostat housing ) of the car

and the chassis of the ecu housing bolted to your car.

different parts of the ecu rely on either of the grounds
