when the car is first started.. The revs climb to 2 and half drop to 1/2 climb back to 1/2 and so on....after abit of driving it calms down..

I am thinking its either a vacuum tube, that would be a turd to sort out whihc one is the culprit. So id like to know if anyone had any more ideas before i went down that path.

(oh, have look at the "Honda Integra Model Listing" thread in stickys, need an answer for that too ^^ )

revs are always higher when you first turn your car on because its trying to warm up and its an old car to begin with, mine does the same.
what you should do is start your car a couple of minutes before you intend to drive to give it some time to warm up, healthier for the engine if its warm before u just drive it.
and that way when you drive it you revs will be stable.
if not your throttle bodies may need a clean out

if your revs a hunting up and down, your EACV could need cleaning or replacing, check the ecu for codes,

also the FITV could need cleaning or adjusting

if you look at the back of your inlet manifold just to the right of the TB there is a bronze color cover with two screws holding it on. This the the unit responsible for the high cold idle and the fluctuating up and down. Early tegs didnt have electronic idle control.
It is normal for it to idle at 2000 when first started and wil;l slowly go down as it warms up.
Have a look at www.redpepperracing.com for how to fix the idle. Most of the info will be for the american 3rd gen civics but they have the same idle valve.
If you cant find the thing im talking about ill post up a pic.

Fast idle valve (rear of inlet manifold)is adjustable although Honda say it isn't.Or to check if faulty remove air tube and put finger over lage port on rear side of throttle body..if it stalls is faulty if not just remove the 2 phillips head screws and use circlip pliers to adjust when cold..must not be started before adjustment.

:honda: The fast idle valve is the culprit on this issue - buy a new one from Honda and fit it. That will fix your startup idle problem. The issue with trying to adjust it is that when it gets colder (winter) your idle may play up again.

Have a look at this thread, I made a post with pics of the IACV

Otherwise, it could be a problem with your coolant as well. Try bleeding the coolant or changing it completely.

My idle was fluctuating a little bit aswell.
Specialy on cold mornings.
It was my leads they were more than 10yr old and where letting condensation in.
Check ur leads out my be as basic as that

If the fast idle valve is adjusted properly,it will not play up in winter..save yourself $300-400 and get it adjusted

Moisture on the leads would cause a misfire instead of an actual idle fluctuation

my sx16 has the opposite problem
when i turn it on, the revs are reallly low, as in almost stalling it low
then after it warms up a bit, its alright
but then, when i drive it, after i shift the revs drop
everyone who has driven my car has stalled it coz of this problem

anyone know what i should check out?

i think its ur cold start idle sensor, needs a clean man
if your car doesent vibrate when idling on cold start then ye
defently cold start sensor
