Got a few questions about the different B16a's:

First of all... I'm looking at a B16a out of a DA6 teg. My questions are about comparison between this b16a and the EG6 b16a.

First of all... how does the EG6 b16a achive the extra 6-7 kwts on the DA6... as in after a few mods on each in comparison will they both get to a point where they have the same power sinces its essentially the same platform.

Second question... My civic being ZC is hydrolic clutch and the DA6 teg b16a is a Cable... is it easy enough to have the clucth mechonism converted? and if so how would i go about it.

Hope theres somone out there with the answers...

Thanks for your time

Nick

Oh and are there any other differences that I havn't picked up on?

There are many varieties of the B16A

generation 1 B16A (JDM) produced 160ps
generation 2 B16A (JDM) produced 170ps
Australian B16A1 (CRX) produced 158ps
Australian B16A2 (civic VTiR) produced 160ps

the real differences are very slight profiles in the cams and ecu fuel mapping to cater for the octane fuel variences.

does that help ?

the JDM's have a slightly higher compresiion ratio and different ECU maps and also the octane of the fuel

so simply put... When i upgrade my cams and ECU they will all perform much the same? ie within 2-3hp.

Thanks guys. :D

Now my other question and i can finally upgrade my engine :D

yes... pretty much but if u go a jdm spec B16a, make sure you use the BP 98 ultimate fuel if u can !

Get a hydraulic box...
Don't waste your time & money de-engineering your car...
The money spent changing the pedal box etc, is better spent on a Hyd gearbox, which by the way are much stronger with a better range of clutches available...
(Input shaft is different, parts are not interchangable...)

yeah sorry thats what I ment... is it easy to convert the gearbox to hydro...

so i do have to buy a whole gear box ey??? How much are they coz it might not be worth it in that case.

Yes... buy the whole gearbox...
Don't piss your money up the wall...
the conversion is not easy & it is not worth it...

Ok so now we've established I will need a new box... how much am i looking at and what would work best if i'm not after a great deal of power, b16a box, or a varient on the b18c? Would it be worth getting a b18a? or b18b? box or would it be too weak/not even fit? Sorry to keep pestering but I need to get this sorted before i purchas the engine offered.

Anything withthe same input shaft as a B16A / B18C GB
This will allow much greater clutch selection...
The gear ratios from the 96 spec JDM DC2 Type R are best...
CTR is anouther top shelf choice...
The VtiR boxes from both the Civics & Integras are the same with regard to ratio's...
Best bang for bucks box is arguably the EG6 SiRII box...
Expect to pay somewhere around $800~$1000 for a good one...

I was under the impression that the civic vti-r ratios were closer than the integra vti-r's!?!?

from what i gather, B-series, or more or less Honda gearboxes are quite strong even in standard form, where they can handle in excess of 400hp+ and so much torque. [gearbox alone, not including clutch etc]

If anything, expect maybe a synchro or two will be playing up, if you get a 2nd hand g'box.

my 2cents

Ok well 800-1000 bucks defeats the purpos of buying the integra DA6 front cut since i'd end up paying the same price as the EG6 cuts I've been looking at and I'll get more power to start off with with the EG6... i'd rather wait for an EG6 that costs around the 27 mark then pay 2100 for a teg b16a that needs another 800 bucks just to get it to suit my configuration.

If anyone knows of a decent gearbox cheaper than this fair enough but its not worth more than $400 to me.
