Hey guys.Just finished doing a d16y8(OBD2 sohc vtec) swap into a eg civic for a fellow Ozhonda member(NERV)this is a very good bang for your buck swap,as many people dont have the $$ for a B,H or K swap. I couldnt find anything on the net that has the complete swap outlined, however there are alot of "mini me" head swaps available.

I wont go into detail about removing the motor,as you should be able to get this part done without any help.

Parts used,things swapped:
Original drive shafts are used
Original mounts are used
D15B7 motor loom used
P28 ecu used
changed timing belt,all fluids ect

(I have listed OBD2 to OBD1 changes below)

Since this is a OBD2 motor and its going into a ODB1 car,i decided the best way would be to convert the d16y8 to OBD1. I used the loom off the 1.5l injected d15b7.

Things i changed over to suit OBD1 on the motor were:

Injectors ( or use d16y8 and change injector clips to suit)
Distributer ( or sue d16y8 and change connectors to suit oBd1)
Alternator ( or change connectors to suit oBd1)

Now the one part i couldnt find much info on was the wiring:

So i used the D15B7 loom onto the D16y8 motor
Most of the plugs from the D15B7 plug straight up onto the d16y8
There is a sensor in the intake manifold(passenger side bottom) that is not on the d16y8 manifold,so i lengthened the wires and plugged the sensor into the intake pipe.
Now vtec wiring

Since OBd1 vtec motor have a oil pressure switch, and the d16y8 did not( please fill me in if im wrong)
Now ECU wise we used the P28,since its converting to OBd1 this was the best choice.

you need to run one wire from the Vtec soleniod to A4 pin on the ecu, then i simply made a jumper wire between D6(vtec pressure sensor) and A4,this allows Vtec to engage on the OBD2 motor, and also stops you from throwing code 22 (vtec pressure sensor).

Thas all the wiring that needed to be done.

Other parts that needed modifying:

Power steering bracket and pump..the d16y8 pump and bracket could not be used as the power steering line form your power steering rack is different between the EG and EK models(different fitting used on pump end).I used the D15B7 pump and bracket, now to make this fit i over sized the bracket holes to fit the D16y8 block, also a small groove needs to be taken from the bracket to clear the block. After this is done,it will bolt up.

once all this is done, fill all your fluids double check your work, turn key and go!
If you have any CEL codes show, use a paper clip and link the service connector(left hand side behind dash for EG's) and check which code is coming up on your dash.

Besides the above its a basic bolt in swap..removing your old motor and bolting the D16Y8 in. Good conversion if your on a budget..happy driving Jon(Nerv)

Thanks alot Paul for putting this motor in for me and also thanks to Justin for giving me his old engine at a really good price.... i originally was going to do a mini me conversion, but since the engine was offered at a good price... i thought... i might aswell chuck the whole thing in, since its more reliable...

heres some pics....

Also thanks again to Paul (honda_be_blastin) who worked really hard on this on his own :)
