Hi guys, i know it may seem like a real stupid question but every time i had changed oil i changed the filter also.. Well,i took my civic for a regular service (to a reputable HONDA garage) after 7,000kms from last oil change/service.... The mechanic changed oil with FEO Honda BUT....did not change filter.. I asked and his answer was short n sweet "not needed".. Will this old filter polute/harm life of new oil??

life of oil filter is generally 10,000kms. I think if its changed every 2nd service (14,000) you should be pretty right as long as your engine is in good nick already

Yeah ive always assumed the oil filter gets changed every second oil change.

i just change it anyways, no harm in having clean oil and a new clean filter.

what a load of bullshit, for an extra 10 bucks for the cost of a filter it should have been changed.

You can never predict when a filter is going to get clogged unless you crack it open and look inside it.

So your filter SHOULD be changed every single time.

The mechanic you went to was being lazy

VTECACCORD - but technically, the Honda factory service schedule indicaters the FILTER is changed every second oil change...

but i always change mine every 5000 or less...

It's something that is recommended but not required...

It's like you can use a pencil to write but you can also use a pen to write as well... :)

Some people wear the same pair of skanky underwear after they shower. They probably think a filter change is unnecessary too.
