AND I LOVE IT!!!!!!

Woke up at 10:30, running a bit late I rang some places and they all told me that they close at 12 and cant install today. I called 3 places and the 4th didnt even answer. They all said yer for sure Monday 8am but that was no good too me was it!!!! :D

Faced with the fact I wasnt getting installed today, I went and met my mate and got the exhaust from him. We were chatting and I said noone can do it and did he know anyone and he said maybe his mechanic could do it. So I rang them up and yep, come down!!! :)

Went down....had to wait a little bit. My mate then came down too and thats when they started working on the car. This was 3pm. When we first started, I noticed that the guy was looking like having problems so I went up and asked and he said the flange on the small pipe that came with the exhaust - sorry, dont know name - didnt fit between the CAT and Bpipe....and also the flange was wrong size. This would have been from when we cut the OEM Bpipe.

After some chatting and some measuring, it was agreed that we would cut that small pipe in half and then cut the flange off the OEM Bpipe and weld it to the end that was naked on that smaller pipe. Thus the proper flange could connect to the new Bpipe and then the old welded on one would connect to the CAT :)

They had to disconnect the battery for some reason, I didnt understand that....and when they removed a teminal from the battery, the alarm went off and kept going off. I dont have master key on me so they got another battery and did something with jump leads....again, I dont know what they were doing there, and didnt really ask....:/

Aftwerwards when the hoist was down, I asked if I could start it....with anticipation, I turned the key and was greeted to a nice throaty roar of her starting....followed by the nice usual idle that she has had since the header install. We checked her over and everything was good and no leaks or loose bolts etc etc.

Paid my $80 bux for the work done and then drove off and took some pics in the carpark. Blue smoke was coming out, and I have read this happens yer? It also happened with my CAI install - I rekon its the fuel mixtures changing etc etc....but yer....SHE SOUNDS FRIKKEN AWESOME!!!!!! Ive got a soundfile here that I took before and will host that also.

All in all, Im VERY impressed. I was worried when I realised it was 4" tip and not 3" like I thought that it might be a little big but nup, she looks quite nice and doesnt look out of place at all :)

Here are some pics of the install....beginning from when they were in my boot when I picked them up at 11:30am....to when I picked my mate up at his work at 5pm. Kind of like a Timeline, it starts at the beginning and works thru the install :)

Now for the bad news - and 2 parts of it too.....

1) When I started the car to hear it etc at the end, the guy said to me straight away "you have a cracked header" and I said to him that tbh, I thought so too. He has told me that it can be welded back and fixed but it will take about 3 hours and I can get it it done on Monday. Will this be the same as original? I couldnt even see the crack, but he said he could and tried to point it out to me...its down near the 2-1 section is I think.....AND I might lose my heatwrap he says....:(

You see they installed ****ing new speed humps in the road next to me and didnt put white lines on them for a few days. Now I had been up in Sydney for 3 days and didnt know they were there. The road has SHIT lighting and so Im cruising down at 40kmph and then in the headlights I see this ****ing speed hump...tried to break.....only got to about 30 and then BANG BANG BANG.....I pull up and get out and have a look but no torch or anything so cant see shit.....Get home and take some pics and nearly cry seeing the two huge gashes on the engine pipe. Nothing toooo bad though so I thought it would be ok....I thought wrong :(

2nd thing is that I was leaving KFC and the driveway is ****en steep as and I ALWAYS go slow and on an angle down the driveway. Anyways, I am exiting tonight and have a mate in the car with me....we exit slowly, on an angle...and then as usual I release the brake slightly after the front wheels are down and then we hear this SCCCRAPE!!!! I looked at my mate and he says I was as white as a ghost lol....he then says it wont be as bad as you think...and I said **** how bad it is...ITS ONLY BEEN ON FOR 2 HOURS!!!! :(

We get to his place and have a look and yep, theres a small scrape on the tip now....but atleast i know that u have to break for the front AND rear now...:)

As I said, Im VERY happy and now just have to think of something to say to the old man - Im thinking something along the lines of "Its just a muffler" :D

Cheers guys :)

Nice exhaust setup.. but if this picture is a exaple of the welding.. i would think twice about letting the same person re weld your headers...which more than likely is stainless and will require a TIG not a MIG weld.

Cheers

Andrew

Nice one :)

I thought you had it already - my bad :)

I forgot to talk about performance - and the butt dyno is telling me that there is HEAPS more torque down low and the general acceleration is alot smoother now.....but since I have the cracked header....I wont be driving to hard atm....:(

yeah that welding is terrible
thats a pretty big bottleneck as well

hmm i can only see scrapes on the header..

nice setup made? is it tanabe?? or some other brand lol??...

welding is a bit dodgy but oh well haha

tofu R - Yer the general concensus is that its terrible and Ill get it redone :) Bottleneck as in cos its dodgy and looks uneven that its a bottleneck? With the header, the crack is where the 2-1 section is of the 4-2-1 apparantly. I couldnt see it as I didnt know what he was talking about

A'PEXi - Thanks man :) Yep its tanabe which makes me tanabe all the way thru cos the header is also. Has JASMA splashed on it too....

Got the welding redone today and all I can say it WOW

and

To this;

http://users.bigpond.net.au/batmaun/car/exhaust/weld/newsmall.jpg

That welding is exactly the same welding that came with the exhaust default. Im pretty, no actually, im VERY impressed with Adrian's work down at RAzzTech that I probably will be going there for all the work I do on my car

We are going to be doing some more thing to the header pipe too when I take it back next Wednesday. I didnt get the hdeader fixed cos he was too busy today unfortunantly. The engine pipe bends downwards a little due to it being a little long still so what we are going to do is cut it a little more and put maybe an S bend in there and make it all straight. With it being a bit angled atm, its making the cat actuall sit VERY low to the ground...literally about 70mm

Tonight I went for a long drive and the smell talked about in the other thread has gone pretty much. We found the wheel guards have some rubbing so we figured its the tyres maybe...Im investigating still. The butt dyno tonight told me that the car is DEFINANTNLY FASTER than when I first got it

Cant wait to get the header fixed and lose that flutter sound it makes when you use WOT..... :jus:

Damn, thats a very nice weld

nice work, that looks alot like the setup i have on my accord, can you tell me what diameter piping you have as mine is 2.5" with the tanabe hyper medallion muffler at the back and a dirty great big resonator/muffler in the middle after the cat convertor. All i can say is that its bloody loud...too loud infact, sets off alarms etc.

Ta man :) But I cant see that pic though :(

Its 60mm which comes to about 2.3" so lets say ~2.25"

Ive got Auto so its not going to be as loud as a manual I dont think which is good. You cant even hear it at idle and its not untill you have WOT that it comes to life....or gear down etc etc.

A mate asked to hear it tonight and I started the car and he had this look of disappointment on his face and hes like "dood wheres the sound??" .....I just smiled and pressed the accelerator
