im wondering if anyone has done something similar to what i am trying....

i have a 96 cxi hatch with a d16y4 engine. i have turboed the engine and am running a t03 turbo,35mm wastegate,2.5" straight through downpipe / exhaust with no cat.600x300x76 intercooler with 2.5" piping, bov, 255lb fuel pump, custom radiator...

unfortunately im still running the stock injectors and ecu...yes im aware of how bad this is and because of this i can barely boost the car, altho the new optimax extreme has lessened the pinging immensly.

anyway...i ordered from the states a P28 ecu (92-95 vtec) thats been chipped with uberdata and bought some 450cc injectors. firstly the obd2a wiring harness doesnt fit my stock ecu....im guessing the US computers are completely dfferent, i probably shoudl have researched a little more.i did go thru it with the guy i bought it off (chris from http://www.redshiftmotorsports.com/) and he assured me that it would all fit and be fine.WRONG!

as stated the ecu conversion harness is wrong, the p28 ecu has numerous functions that my car doesnt. my friend who is a mechanic said he would be able to take the harness and my ecu and make a new harness to fit but during the process he just came across to many problems so the idea has largely been scrapped.

my question (yes i finally got there) is: can i use the p28 ecu on my car? is there something my friend and i have missed while trying to figure it out?
the other question would be has anyone here done this sort of conversion? does anyone use uberdata on the site if so with what ecu?

any help would be appreciated...im either going to try this or just buy a microtech and go that rout.

thanks for the help and sorry for long post

The D16y4 is actually a much smaller ECU than a standard ECU. It only has 2 plugs going into it. Where as most other ECUs have 3. YOur best bet would be to grab a complete OBD2a VTEC wiring harness and an OBD2a - OBD1 Conversion harnes for your p28 ECU. Then get your P28 Chipped and have VTEC, ELD, Knock sensor and 02 heater checks removed.

Or.... grab your self a obd1 ecu harness with the 3 plugs. Then chop off all the wires about 20cm away from the ECU. and using various resources from the net match up all your existing wiring pinouts for the OBD2a ECU to your P28. Note your p28 will throw about a million error codes as there will be multiple things not plugged into it. VPS, VTEC, 2nd O2, KS(maybe). These can all be chipped out too.

But if I were in your situation I would wither buy a Greddy Emanage/SAFC or a complete standalone ECU and fix yout tuning problems that way. You will just end up double/tripple spending what you would on it anyway.

yeah that was the first thing i noticed, the ecu is half the size...why is this? any reason worth mentioning or thats just the way it is?

the p28 ecu has already been chipped with uberdata for my turbo setup. vtec was disabled....no wait i think it was set to kick in at like 10000rpm which im not going to get to so it would never be an issue.

as i said in the post my friend was going to make a wiring harness using the pinout diagrams but found to many problems between the p28 and my ecu.

ive done a lot of reading on emanage and dont want to use it...the basic trend i found in the info i read was that piggy back systems are no good and sort of dangerous as they just dont have the functions of a standalone.

Cause it has half the functions of a VTEC ecu. I mean you could fit all the info of and ECU into a a micro chip if you wanted too.

Cool!

Get rid of your stock Wiring harness and replace with a wiring harness out of a 96 - 98 Vti coupe or Vti-R hatch and use that. Then get a conversion harness OBD2a - OBD1 for your ECU. That way you will have all the plugs.

Yes I agree Piggyback = Gay.

just get a harness made up and use the P28,

just because you only have the 2 connectors doesnt mean it cant be done.

What I would do is, get an identicle OBDII ecu that your car had, butcher the connectors from the ecu get some OBDI connectors, make a harness.

peoblem solved, if you really want to use your orig ecu for the connector.

what probles are you worried about...

why dont you just buy SAFC and get them tuned
to tune it will cost around 200 bucks and to buy around 300
the best choice man

id use an emanage for a cheap option. u will have a very hard time getting uberdata tuned down here.
