Hi all.
Lately ive noticed that the water temp drops all the way down when the heater is on and it's cold outside...is this normal or could i have water pump problems? i am running honda coolant.
1999 honda civic cxi 130,000km
thanks

First thing to check is the coolant level - check the reservoir.
Then replace the Thermistat (located under the throttle body area, follow the coolant pipe to the engine). Mine went at around 130000-150000.

It does happen. The heater takes it heat from the coolant.
Its a trick thats used when the car's overheating...Switch on heater...
and it'll help with water temps.
It should reduce the temperature but not drastically, should still stay around
60~70 degrees...but the OEM temp guage isn't exactly accurate.

if it happens esp at cold nights.
best bet is the thermostat.
in my old car i yousta run just water with an open thermostat all the time.
during winter nights when im driving temps drop pretty low compared to normal idle temps.

Thanks guys
sounds like changing the thermostat may be a good idea. Any ideas on the lifespan of a water pump? Any easy way to test them?

Water pump should be changed every 100,000km with the Timing Belt
