it depends on the tire/compound, but I think it mostly depends on how many heat cycles its been through.

yeah thats what ive read too but for full slicks...

and would u know if they wear more towards the centre..

Ive been speaking to a friend who ran 26psi cold semis..... he's semis wore more on the centre, unlike street tread at the track which wears the shoulders (38psi hot)

Yeh I have that exact problem, I ran them 34 hot and I got pretty bad wear right down the middle of the tire, my friend has the same problem on his semi's (Astro). The next time I tracked I was 30 hot all round, I think lowering the pressures helped me with more even wear. I'm still not sure what it is.

doesnt wear down the middle usually mean tyre pressure is too high?

it could be just a fwd thing as i know they tend to wear more in the middle on fwd, have you compared the rears to the front? was it the same result wear more in middle?

TOO FREAKY!
thinking about it now, it could be a toe problem in conjunction to high pressures. both front and rear left tires wore in the middle (wakefield).

It really depends but the general idea would be -

a worn tyre is a worn tyre. A semi if it is softer compound may still grip better than a street tyre in the dry, but in the wet it will slide all over the place.

My street tires are fine and don't have uneven wear that is noticable. My track tires are a different story though. Track tires get treated differently than street tires so wear is going to be different. Also pressures are going to be different.

maybe street tyres flex more and the sidewalls are weaker
so it wears the outside more?

just guessing here
