but wtf is a buddy list for?

Its just a application of the site that allows you to add people to ur buddy list.

Then when you log into the index page, it will tell you which of your buddies are online, with quick links to PM them etc.

Sorta like a built in MSN to the site (in a way)

ross, if you look at the whole member list (to see who's online) you'll see the people who are on your buddy list have a plus sign (+). that lets you know they are on your list.
