Well I had Advan Sport v103's put on my rims today and because there are few consumer impressions of these wheels on the net I thought I'd share.

How do they compare to my previous tyre?

The size is 225/45/r17 and compared to my previous goodyear eagle f1 gs-d3's in the same dimensions it's like night and day. I've driven around my favourite roads and taken corners at speeds that previously had the goodyears squealing - now they are dead quiet and the car grips without a noise and with more confidence.

Driving feel:

I could imediately tell that the side wall of these tyres had more strength and as a result turn in has GREATLY improved. Where i once used to understeer at speed in a corner slightly the car shows great composure and follows the line exatly where i point the wheel. Essentialy, the car is more firmly "planted" and more willing to change direction than before. Interestingly, along with the added grip came the benifit of reduced tram-lining. I use to hate driving along an undulating road and have the car change direction on me so easily. Now tram-lining is barely noticeable and i feel like I'm the one in control again :)

Road noise:

once again quieter than the eagle F1's and they don't screech around tight/fast corners.. imagine the sound of a marshmallow on sandpaper and that's what they sound like instead haha. Also a lot quieter at high speeds and less noise is transfered to the cabin.

Price:

at $315 a tyre fitted, they aren't exactly cheap. But back when i bought my goodyears I actually paid more than this! So I guess you could say they are a bargain in relative terms ;) - but so far I think they are worth every penny.

Other tid-bits:
These tyres are meant to work great at higher temperatures and exhibit little fade when they get really hot due to a special silica/rubber compound cuasing a chemical reaction (probably just marekting hype) and high temps to sustain grip. I'm hoping that because of this they will turn out to be a good track/street tyre without the horrible wear rates of tyres like the advan ad07 and a048 (more of a pure semi-slick).

these tyres are standard issue on the bentley contintental GT and have a speed rating of Y which means they can reach speeds in excess of 300km/h :) (the goodyears were rated to 240km/h from memory)

What can I say I'm impressed - so i thought I'd take the time to review and recommend these tyres  (also lets me put off study)

its nice to hear that u like the yokohamas..

I know what the goodyears feel like... :thumbdwn:
My impression on the goodyears is exactly the same as yours!

So...is this your 2nd set of tyres on the euro??
How long did each set last??

haha John i don't think I'll be getting anywhere near 300km/h should be fun trying though haha.

Thanks, I really am happy with them - driving the car is a pleasure now (it was frustrating driving around on those goodyears!)

I'm glad someone else had the same impression of the goodyears... they seam to get rave reviews in the magazines and some consumer opinion sites.. but seriously - I thought those tyres were horrible - never again.

Yep this is my second set of tyres. The goodyears lasted under 30,000km (about 28,000 or so) which is pretty poor considering how they peformed.

I think there may be a couple of variations out there of this tyre though. Mine was made in thailand I think, yet egSi has them on his car and is really happy with them (the tread pattern on his tyres actually looked ever so slightly different and the rubber felt softer)

but my verdict from my experience... advan :thumbsup: goodyear :thumbdwn::thumbdwn:

Sometimes, its better to have ur own opinion on tyres, rather than believing what motor magazines say.

Goodyear was rated best overall performance in 04 and 05 (in wheels i think). How did that happen??? I really don't know.

My Goodyears F1's were made in Germany, not thailand. But it still suffered the same problems!!

Are the Advan Sport V103 the best yokohama street tyres?

IMO the AD07 are the best street tyres from ADVAN ;)

So true!

It's hard to beleive where editorial content and avertising stops these days... Always best to trust your own judgement.

The Advan Sport V103 are the best/top of the line tyre that is officially available in Australia for street use and have reportedly faired quite well on the track aswell.

The AD07 would offer more grip than the Advan Sports (in the dry at least) and a lot of people have said they are great street tyres that are very useable on the track. IMO though, a tyre needs to last around 20,000km or more to be classified as a true street tyre. The wear characteristics of the AD07 are verging on semi-slick I'd say. I also wanted a tyre that was "officially" available in Australia to avoid any warranty issues etc.

AD07s are street tyres with a high wear rate but pretty far off when compared to semi slicks.
If you look at wear rating,
AD07 160
V103 180
A048 60

so going by rating, the AD07 will last around 11% less than what a V103 lasts.
They'll probably do around 15000-20000kms pending driving style.

while A048s will last ~7000 kms.

Thanks for the info Marc. 15000-20000kms is quite good although still a tad on the low side for some.

I'm hoping to get 25000 out of the v103 with a couple of track days.
