vti coupe is about $10000 and vti-r is about $15000........130hp vs 170hp.....SOHC vs DOHC.....

All depends on how much u going to spend.....

PS: EM1 is the 170hps DOHC vtec coupe.......EJ8 is the 130hp SOHC Vtec coupe:)

If you've got the money for a vtir, hit it up for sure!

Check the stickies too, there is a model information thread which will give you some pretty good info on the models.

depends what you want out of a car..
do you want performance, or do you just want looks ?

if you want performance, go for the em1 (vtir coupe)..
but if you're not fussed or power hungry.. go the ej8 and save urself ~7-10 grand

Id go the VTi-R.

I bought mine in 2000 was one of the last in stock, only planned to have it for 3 years (on a lease) and ended up having it for 6! great car and worth every dollar more than the SOHC VTi.

They're hard to come by so good luck...

Here's a pic of mine.

Like everyone's said, it depends on what you're after, and how much of a budget u have.

VTi - 97-98 spec (ie different front end, yellow indicator markers on rear and sides too i think), auto or manual, sohc, no sunroof, 14" alloys standard
VTi-R - 99-00 spec (facelift, white/clear markers on rear end), manual only, dohc vtec, sunroof, 15" alloys standard

I can't remember if the VTi was released 96 or 97

From a personal experience, my family has a the VTi (bought the month it was released) and imo it is a great daily driver... You do get the option of auto, whereas the VTi-R is manual only, being the performance model in the 99-00 civic line up as it replaced the hatch wif the B16A. But yer, you're paying ~5K more for the VTi-R, HOWEVER you are also getting a more powerful engine, sunroof, bigger alloys standard, as well as a NEWER car. So if you can afford it, definitely the VTi-R, if not, the VTi still a great choice ;) Goodluck.

Thanks for the help guys, yeah i tink id be better going ahead with the
vti-r..
its better off getting the vti-r now with the B16A then me going off and getting a vti and then doing a B16A conversion.

Cool.... thanks guys!!

Smart choice  but don't bail on it if u can't find one straight away. Stay patient and one will present itself to u  ...

if the vti-r is around 5-7g more than the vti then i'd go for the vti, u can get a b18c7 and in the end u'll spend the same but u'll go faster than the vti-rs :), plus u still have the old engine u can sell...

Also u need to account for insurance. Not exactly sure how much vtir's cost more in insurance than vti tho

You cant go wrong with an EM1 VTi-R... the subtle changes between the two (ignoring the drive line) makes the EM1 a nicer looking car standard (in my opinion of corse). I believe the VTI-R Coupes are still hard to find. As i sold mine only recently to a guy from Sydney who had been searching for months.

VTI-R Hatch! (Ek4) comes with sunroof stock!, why haven't you thought of that one?
Slightly cheaper than an Em1. ALso lighter and better handling than the EM1

P.S once you get Vtec(proper stuff not belt driven ones! or only ignition) you can't go back!

btw check which country the car was from, i have a friend who brought a American coupe and his now having so much trouble finding a panel filter for it, cause it's located ON TOP of his fuel injected.

^^^ True ^^^
bought mine end of last year and took me 3-4 months to find the damn thing
Also dont go for the first one u see unless its actually a good deal
and if it is a good deal take it or someone else will guaranteed (happened to me twice when i was lookin)
check the tradingpost and carsale. they pop up every now and then
i checked everysingle day atleast 3 times
then i got lucky when they posted up my car
was the first person to look at the car from the dealer
picked it up for 17k with 35,XXX kms (legit kz)
car was in perfect condition

so just be patient and dont give up
eventually you come across a nice deal

I know someone else who picked one up at a dealer, just like pchio it's red, similar price and KM. This was sometime last year.

He told me there was another one at the dealer at the time but was green :D

LOL @ people saying do the conversion. Sure you can convert for 4K, then you have to do the break upgrades AND your insurance will go through the roof because you have an extensively modified vehicle.

Buy the VTiR - in the long run it's more viable. Get an EM1 though.
