Hi guys,

I've decided to add a comptech icebox to my Euro but I've got a few questions.

1. I'm in Sydney. Where's the best place to locate one? How much does it cost?

2. Is it difficult to install? Would it be better to get someone to install it?

3. I know the product comes with a filter. Is it easy to remove for cleaning?

I appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance! ;)

This guy is excellent

You have to remove the front bumper..so if you don't know how maybe ask you honda dealer...... and yes is easy to clean.

check out this thread for front bumper removal.
excellent write up by matell

its not that hard to remove if you've got all the right tools.
took me around 2 hours to install the Injen CAI which should be similar to installing the icebox.

You don't have to remove the front bumper to do the install :)....

Takes about an hour all up to do :)

In all honesty, yfin has seen me do his IceBox without removing the bumper and I've done the same to my K&N Typhoon CAI, yes it's a pain in the arse but beats wasting more time removing the bumper :)....

Sodaz... I think one of our traders supplies CompTech Iceboxes... search in the trader section :)

Nick got that resonator bolt off in like 2 minutes without removing the bumper. It took us more time to find the right tool (at a friend of Nick's) than get the bolt. I can't remember the tool size but unless you have the right size it is a pain in the ass.

As much as I support the traders here - that guy Peekay pointed to on ebay is by far the cheapest by a long way even with shipping costs. Shop around by all means - but I have been there and done that and Acura of Escondido is the cheapest and also reliable.

ps order the Comptech filter cleaning kit from them too - you will not pay any extra shipping and it is only $9.50US

used a socket wrench piece of cake a glow stick for lighting inside the cavity would have helped in hind sight

Does it matter that these are selling to a L/H/D market? do comptech make a l/h and r/h drive version?

The last thing you'd want is a useless part for our aus deliverd cars...

engine layout is the same between the AUDM cl9 and USDM cl9 TSX so the comptech icebox would fit.

Which one is better? Comptech icebox or injen CAI?

as001
25-04-2006, 10:35 PM
injen/tyhoon cai has better gains up top but loss of bottom end (loud loads of induction noise)
comptech has minimal loss bottom end and a little gain up top (only hear induction noise when in upper rev range)

I have a comptech but in hind sight might have gone for proper cai after hearing a few on the road the proper cai really roar up top

I have the comptech and it was not very difficult to install and I am quite happy wth it.

I elected to take the bumper off which proved the most difficult part of the install.

As mentioend previously you can install it without bumper removal.

Good Luck

Installed the icebox yesterday. The bumper was a biatch to take off but luckily it all went well. The car definitely revs quicker and smoother with the icebox. My butt dyno tells me that the car is a bit faster too. In short, great product and good mod to have! Thanks for all the info guys. :)

Thinking of getting Comptech IceBox, as my 1st performance upgrades :P i hope it is a right choice for me. just some questions. How much power increase will i receive from this mod?
also, where can i get it from? i saw one on ebay from the state, also one from the trader forum, JDM concept? where else?
and what's the average price for them? so i don't get ripped off :D thanks :D

You will only get a few hp increase with this mod but what makes it special it how it improves power delivery. It revs much faster and doesn't hold back, regardless of weather. You also get a nice sounding engine note when you floor it.

The only downside to this mod is that you will get some resonance in the cabin at certain rpms from the removal of the resonator.

I got mine for $150US from ebay and installed it myself. Took me a bit more than 2 hours. Good luck!

BusterSonic12
24-05-2006, 08:13 PM
so it increase hp, but the main aim of icebox is to improves power felivery, and rev faster than stock.

does that mean it will also improve & gain acceleration? eg 0-100km?
is it worth getting? better than getting a K&N filter? any regards getting it tho?? :p thx for all your info.

can you explain "you will get some resonance in the cabin at certain rpms from the removal of the resonator" in plain english, i don't really understand it lol sorry

There is a definite improve in acceleration but i'm not sure how that would translate to 0-100km/h times. I'm not sure how it compares to using just a k&n filter but it would be safe to say that with the icebox is a lot more effective. You can also use the k&n filter with the icebox as far as i know.
IMO it's a very good mod to get.

About the resonance. You might hear a "buzzing noise" when you give the car more throttle at some rpms. The resonator is designed to remove these noises but it also inhibits performance. It's like a vibration sound.

BusterSonic12
24-05-2006, 10:28 PM
so i can stop the noises right? but that will also decrease performance?? i can fit K&N filter in is well ?? cool mod :D:D must get**

After i get the box, i won't have money for the K&N :( lol

You will only get the noise if you give it a fair bit of throttle and it lasts for no more than a second at a time. You will understand it better when you install it.

Yes, you can use the K&N filter later if you want. Those filters aren't cheap but it's always an option for the future. :)

BusterSonic12
24-05-2006, 11:09 PM
mayb my 4th mod could be the filter :D you got the K&N installed in your euro? how often you need to clean the icebox's filter? was the install easy? where you from?

Hey all. I just took my resonator off. I lost torque from idle to 1500rpm... Grrrr... and there is the usual booming sound at full throttle between 2200 and 3000rpm.

High RPM is nice, but I can feel more vibration above 5000rpm.

It's a pod filter that has an adapter that is made for your particular model. Usually it reuses the stock intake arm. So it is a poor man's SRI, without the nice metal tube.

I'm going to diy the box from sheet metal. It's going to be dodgy, so when I show it to you all in a month or 2, remember to laugh!

Just position it as normal in the bumper cavity where the resonator would have been. You don't need direct airflow to the intake anyway (ram effect only works at about 200km/h I've read). The air in the cavity is cool enough to work ok.

The filter that comes with the icebox is washable so theoretically you dont need other filters. I would recommend you buy the filter recharge kit made by Comptech (Acura of Escondido sell it too) - it was under $10 and fits within the icebox box so no extra shipping required.

Yes you can put your filter and res back when selling the car. As for it being 'no hassle' - well that depends on whether you think removing the bumper is a hassle or not.

As for it being 'worth it' - that is a tough call. It isnt incredibly expensive (given a full tank of gas for the Euro is over $80 these days). That said I think the Whiteline rear sway is better bang for buck...
