i have had my car since jan and nothing has been wrong with it, perfect car mechanicaly interior is smich and i couldnt figure out why i picked it up for such a steel
i have only just realised after i finaly got around to giving my interior a vacume that my driver side carpet is wet...i never realised because i have floor mats that are rubber backed so it has never come through to my mats
i lifted the carpet today and the water is coming from what looks like rubber covering with a foam backing which is pretty much under the pedals to where your toes would sit...it is cracked in some places and the water is seeping through the soaked foam and onto my interior carpet
this is only on the drivers side and is not to bad yet but i want to attck it now while the weather is not that bad and before my car smells water damaged
anybody help me let me know what the rubber surface is there for, if its happened to anyone tell me what you did
please help!!!

get the hose out and get someone to run water onto your sunroof, then look under the dash to see if its coming from that hose.

if so replace/repair that hose

the rubber surface is there as deadening to keep out noise and heat from reaching the cabin

yes i have a sunroof...ecu-man can u expand on what you said to do, i dont quite understand what to do with the hose.
are you talking about a hose in the car or garden hose???
this sounds like it could be it if tru32u has the same prob and a sunroof, if anyone could help some more it would be greatly appreciated

sorry :)

you get someone to pour water on the sunroof with a garden hose

while your in the car looking for the leak,

as you said you saw it leaking from that hose, replace or repaire that hose. make sure your windscreen isnt leaking.

if it were the windscreen would it still leek onto the floor of the drivers side??? how???
i never said a hose, what hose could it be and where is this???
when i lifted the carpet there is what looked like a rubber gromet, do you know what this is???

yeah the car has several gromets,

best get a torch so you can see and the hose on it.

water will find its way to the carpet no matter where its leaking from,

on a 4 door I have seen the rear door causing the drivers floorwell to get wet,

look in your kick pannel, you will see a hose that goes up the A pillar, this is the sunroof drain, make sure ist ok and not leaking.

sometimes to find a leak you just have to spend a bit of time to find it with a hose and someone crouched under the dash with a torch looking for it.

i had the same problem with my old LS
spent 2days with a hair dryer dryin it up... havnt used rubber floor mats since. my theory is that the water got in there a over a week b4 i discovered it, as it was raining, and the my jeans/shoes got drenched. the rubber mats kept the moisture in there for a while... didnt have wet carpet since that although it did rain several times

yeah i like the rubber mats though, my ones are so thick and soft
did you fix the leek or did you just chance it and it never happened since???

i took the chance... assumed it was from me opening the door to get in when it rained, as well as my feet being drenched.
my car is parked outside... and once i got rid of the floor mats, it neva happened again.

yeah but i want to try and find why its wet then fix it if i find it...the sunroof idea i will investigate more into but if anyone has anymore ideas in what would cause my floor to be wet like it is then please let me know what it could be and how you think to fix it

yeah give the sunroof thing ago, as well as the windscreen... thats ur 2 most likely options.
i just got lucky

i wish i could be so lucky...these kind of things never work out easy for me, hopefuly its only the sunroof and a good bike tube patch can fix it right up, hopefully not the windscreen

Used to drive a Magna & had a similar problem but I had about an inch of water sloshing around in the front passenger foot well. Unable to find a definate source of the problem but the only thing I suspected was leaking windscreen.

By pulling off the plastic strips that cover the seal between glass & metal it looked like there was moisture in there. I found my pressing the windscreen there was some movement.

You may also want to ensure there is no build of gunk at the base of the windscreen. This may be covered by plastic guards but I found I had accumulated a bit crap down there which may have prevented the water being drained properly.

If you havent done it already I would recommend pulling the felt (carpet underlay out) This stuff wont dry easily & is what will cause your car to get smelly.

Thanks macros...i havnt taken the underlay out, but i think i will...the shit is stuck to the floor
this is good im liking the ideas, will investigate thoroughly this weekend, let you know how it goes
anymore ideas in what it could be please let me know post it up, it sounds like a lot of people are having or have had the same kinda probs so you would be helping more than just me
thanks ;)

ok...thanks to all you guys for your input, like i said i was going to investigate this weekend into my leek.
i pulled out all the interior (front seats, most interior panels) and pulled back the carpet, after ripping out the underlay crap under the carpet (smelt like wet dog), and having to cut out some of the sound deadener (soaked up most of the water, would have never dried)(will have to replace with something) i got down to it and used ECU-Man's idea...running water into the sunroof found it wasnt that, the water ran out perfectly down the tube and all over my garage floor...
thinking smarter this time i moved my car out onto the driveway and hosed slowly around the windscreen and found that it leeked into the car at the top drivers side corner, rang up earlier today and found a place to re-seal the windscreen for $95, they cut it out re-seal and put back replacing the glue adhesive...in the yellow pages the add said 24/7, so i asked if they could fix it today and the lady told me on the phone because its a sunday the same thing would cost $210
booked in for tomorrow...problem solved
Thanks again to everyone who helped out
Robert

$95 providing they dont crack the windscreens, which apparently is a high factor in :honda: because they are glued in place good...if windscreen cracks or worst case smashes then it would cost $190.

God was on my side and the windscreen came out prefect, not even and scratch from the guy craming his stanly knife into it, i was scared he was going to shave off some piant or cut into my interior (it looked like it got close) but he obviously new what he was doing

Leak fixed, not more wet carpet everything put back into the car after a good clean...smellin fresh

Thanks guys for all the help, ideas

sounds more like your windscreen than your sunroof if you have one...to check it what i did was pull out all your interior (front seats, center consoles) then you can pull the carpet back and just get inside with a torch like ECU-MAN said and get someone to spray just the windscreen, all round the edge...when you see leaks tell waterer to stop and that will tell you windscreen, i just went through the yellow pages to find different prices and i got a reasonble price with a good gaurantee/warranty........
easy but time consuming..trust me!!!!

good luck anywayz i hope you get it all sorted out and fixed
