I am quite interested at how much fuel these cars are consuming. :)

On the sport model which I've got, the label says 7.9L/100km.
This figure is meant to be city/highway combined.

I am on to my 2nd tank of fuel now, not having to record the amount travelled vs fuel used.

The funny thing is that the digital fuel meter was completely showing empty. Not even one block was lighted, and the E yellow warning light was well alit. I managed to do another 12km(city) from the time it was on till I was in the petrol station for a full refill.

It came to my amazment :o that it only took in 42.74L of fuel. Now, I am 100% sure that our tank is 50L. So even having the meter with no blocks, there is still a massive 7L left!

Story's over, I like to collect some data for people who like to buy a new civic and research the fuel consumption.

Please post about:
How many km's per full tank
City or Highway kms or even combined
Manual or Auto
Vti, Vtil or sport model
Cruising, sprited driving or F1 style right foot :p
Date of Petrol price per litre (on the increase)
Normal 91 Ron fuel, 95, 98 or 100 RON fuel!

This is my tribute,
21/04/2006
42.74L of 91 Ron fuel @ $1.359/L
Yet to know how many K's till empty
but manual sport.
I'll repost as soon as it hits empty.

Thanks ppl! ;)

I'm at 5038km

picked up mid march.

yeh about 1,000km / week................hahahhahaha.

Engine feels abit looser now then when I first took it to OP at around 1500km.

The ease of driving this car is sensational. I"m no new car expert but fark........it doesn't get much better does it? Everything is so seamless and easy.

ok so whos the first to crack their dash open and wack this in there with an aftermarket ecu to boot? :D

I never heard of a reserve tank for a car??? I ride a motor bike and there is a switch where you can flick to the reserve tank.

The manual says 91RON. Know that from the very start! Honda De-tuned K20A Variant for that purpose, to drink 91RON!!! I like to know users of 95+ RON fuel to see if any improvement... KM wise and power wise.

Reserve tank will be in use when the fuel light comes on you should have about 5 - 10L till it runs dry.

Not at all.. its Sydney metro driving and peak hour along victoria road in the mornings.

right now im one notch past half way and ive pull 330km so i might even break 530km on this tank and head towards 600!

i worked out at the time that the amount of fuel filled and 528km was 8.1lt per 100km so there is still a way to go to reach hondas claims.

got an 06 civic sport auto

the FC in my car is quite bad for some reason, here's my averages with different fuels:

Burmah 91: 9.6L/100km
Burmah 95: 9.0L/100km
Mobil 91: 10.1L/100km

i keep my tyre pressure up and don't use the aircon much at all (since it's winter and the heater works fine without it.) don't know why i can't get near the quoted 8.0L/100km figure.. best i've gotten is 8.7 using burmah 95...

What are your fuel consumption numbers? VTi(L) or Sport? Manual or auto?

I have a VTI auto, but the thing is, i havent been able to fill a "whole" tank before. it cuts me off at teh 3/4 mark, and my friend said this was normal coz its new. so with 3/4 of a tank..abt 35L? i get abt 300km or less =S

sounds about right. mines a 06 manual civic vti. done bout 2800km.

I usually use optimax and get bout 250-300 for about $30.

i don't think that your car being new will limit you getting a complety full tank?

chylld

it cuts me off at teh 3/4 mark, and my friend said this was normal coz its new.

by this do you mean that the fuel pump clicks off and won't let you fill up past 3/4?

i had this problem with my 06, the trick is that you have to aim the nozzle as 'up' as possible, and pull it slightly (about a cm) outwards of the deepest it gets. i think it's a problem with the way the fuel filler pipe is designed in our cars, it's probably causing backsplash which makes the nozzle think the tank's full...

really pissed me off, the first time i went to fill up my 06 i thought i just kept getting bad pumps, so ended up going to 3 diff service stations in the space of 15 minutes until i figured it out... and btw some service stations u'll find u can just fill up normally without doing anything special

that shouldnt happen
i just got my car last thursday and filled up yesterday for the very first time......i filled up when the fuel indicator was on and there was 2 dots or whatever u call them left put in 40L of fuel and the dots are full

So once you fill it til it stops, the fuel gauge shows 3/4 full? It could be that the fuel filler hole is slightly smaller than other cars, so there is pressure detected by the filler nozzle handle and it stops the fill. I usually press it once more after it has stopped on its own.

Jo_e

Yeh as aaronng said, i'll fill it till it stops and the fuel guage shows abt 3/4 when i start the car. Jace and Chylld also said they had this problem, so i guess its not too big of a deal to worry abt atm...thanks anyways. I'll see how it goes when it reaches 1k +

ive been getting around the same figures as chylld with a 06 civic VTi on normal unleaded petrol. ive tried optimax and that had no improvement so i stopped using it. on roads where i barely stop(eg. freeway) i can get over 400km's easily, but as soon as i hit the normal roads.. lol, my petrol consumption just dies.

i also had the same petrol pump problems, and i also did what chylld did lol.

My auto Vti has done about 5600kms now and using 91RON I can get about 500kms till the low fuel light comes on with mixed driving. I can fill my tank to top every time so I'm not sure some of u know how to jiggle the nozzle properly in order to keep filling when it clicks. Sorta sounds like my GF who gets scared of petrol overflowing after the 1st click! Hehe... A bit disappointed with the fuel consumption as i estimate I'm only getting about 8.0L/100km, not low 7's as claimed by the yellow sticker. My manual Jazz Vti-S could easily beat the factory fuel consumption figures, about 6.1L/100km, that is until it stolen and stripped bare.... :(

I am on 91RON.

I have done about 440klms and had two bars left on the fuel indicator before I filled up. The car had 95 kilos on it when I got it, so I can't say if it was a full tank when I got it or partly used.

My driving is a mixture of city with some intermittent 80-100kph stuff. I have the Civic Sport. The claim of 8L/100klms seems about right (reckon mine is about 8.4) taking into account I haven't done much highway stuff.

Also do not mix up overseas Civics with our own. The are various features missing, one of which includes the fuel calculator, MP3 aux etc.

sounds like ur getting pretty good fuel efficiency there, chrissara! my last tank clocked in at 10.5L/100km - hardly any hard driving and only using the aircon occasionally. the best i've gotten with ron91 is 9.5, ron95 9.0. the lowest i've gotten ever is 7.8, that's using premium driving from syd-canberra! i can't realistically get anywhere near honda's claims :(

which brand petrol do you put in? i think maybe my local no-name one is giving me e10 or otherwise dodgy fuel...

chrissara
27-08-2006, 07:26 PM
Okay - I can't say what fuel was in it when I got it. It is on it's second tank now and I put in Mobil. I also have the auto - I have not driven it hard, i.e. no fast acceleration. My foot has rarely gone beyond 1/3 on the pedal. I have been gradually accelerating.

I am waiting for the magic 1000klms before starting to get a bot more floor heavy!!

haha no offence meant :) out of curiosity, is there any way to tell whether a station uses e10? i've read that ethanol-blended fuels hurt power and thus fuel efficiency... just looking for all possible reasons that's all.

davecash
27-08-2006, 10:50 PM
not sure about how to tell if they use e10. I find no different in power compared to 95 ron. the only downside i would say is u get slighly worse consumption using e10 then what you would using 95ron. But since its cheaper than 91 ron its all good:)

well,

VTI auto
driven 750km so far
fuel consumption sucks totally.

this is my third tank, but i never fill it to full. all i do is add exactly 30L, because i don't want carry extra weight when i don't need to. (i fill about once a month or less)

never hard accelerate, only accelerate below 2k rpm over a period of time. no idel time, because i work from 10 to 6, so no traffic jam at all, constant 50-60 km (2 different zones). very granny style driving. No air con at all, never used.

use normal 91 ron unleaded from caltex. so far, my fuel consumption is about 10L-10.5L/100km

following tables was recorded from second tank, so i can keep a track of my usage, lol. i am just a bit pissed at my consumption, so don't laugh.

i really wonder why some of us are getting such poor fc while others are getting such good fc. in my case, i don't think my sound deadening is the fault, because there's only 20-25kg of that stuff there, and i'm also quite religious about my tyre pressure, always keep it just a bit above the recommended. chrissara: i'm going to try your method today of not going beyond 1/3 pedal travel, perhaps i'm heavy-footed without realising it!

random thought: perhaps there's a wheel alignment problem in some of our civics causing more friction and thus worse FC?
