make sure the vtec is set to 18psi of boost first
and it will 'kick in'

nar these guys are being dicks...i'm not too sure myself but since its a SOHC VTEC, it wouldnt have a clear kick in like DOHC VTECs. My fat F23 Kicks in depending on manifold pressure. anywhere from 2300 to 3900. Red line being 6800 ish. same could applie to your engine ?

Dont use too much psi, your VTEC might fall off :D

It kicks in at around 5000rpm I think, not sure of the exact rpm. You can tell when it kicks in, the engine sounds different and becomes more powerful. But its only an SOHC VTEC so its not going to be a huge performance difference.

Its a D16Y4 yeah? The engine code is stamped on the engine at the front near the gearbox.

Intake Headers and Exhaust are a start (I/H/E).

intakes aint hard to put on??

EuroDude
26-04-2006, 10:00 PM
Since you just got the car, u should replace all the filters and oils/fluids.
Replace the Air Filter with a K&N panel replacement (~100) for a small performance increase.

How much do u wanna spend?

Very easy - between 4 to 6 screws depending.

I suggest get a decent catback with decent 4-2-1 headers and hi flow cat, maybe some better spark plugs and leads
also maybe a Cold air intake might do you some good
with just these simple mods though you won't notice a huge difference, best get an engine swap, start saving for that k20 its alot of $$$

any suggestions on the parts eg, buddy club as in brand name.. for better performance

[ricer]
26-04-2006, 10:17 PM
i think its an old car
so would be wise spending the money making it last rather then fast
u just got it too so keep the money for a while, u never know if theres gonna be mechanical problems around the corner
if u want a buddy club item pm egsi for a short shifter...

G-nos
26-04-2006, 10:19 PM
oh yeh.. i have alot of money set just for fixing the car if problems do occur... so yeh..

i have seperated spending money to fixing car money hehe...

but thanks for the thought anwayyz..

hmm...buddy club + performance under $2K? serisouly it will be difficult. I assume ur referring to buddy club rims as well yeah. yep like everyone said I/H/E. Maybe settle on second hand coilovers and sway bars (that way you will be quick around corners and on the track!) not just in a straight line.

G-nos
26-04-2006, 10:23 PM
oh 2k isnt just my budget.. at the moment 2k for now.. until nxt pay day... heheh..

dats what imm still thinking about..\

to be honest what u guys reken.. performance first or looks??

if its looks all im going to do is rims 16" prefered and coilovers.. carbon fiber lip.. and carbon fibre hood... dats it im done.. jdm look..

if u're planning to get a k20..
why don't u just save up for it.. rather than wasting money on parts ur gonna rip out later..

SiReal
26-04-2006, 10:28 PM
well do the looks, and then do subtle performance mods. Just start with a panel filter, a DIY CAI (Cold Air Intake - cost me $25 + 2 hrs from autobarn) and maybe a subtle yet stylish twin loop xforce fart cannon. That would be ****.

G-nos
26-04-2006, 10:29 PM
i c.. dats right.. i think im just going to go for looks.. and do little mods like buddyclub perf exaust. and cold intake...

den do my JDM look.. hehe.. den get my k20 im gana do internals as well.. so i can do ezy 10s..

lol if ur gonna go so hardcore later why waste your money now?
all ur gonna do if fork out a bunch of money for ur current engines mods then when u go ur intense build ur intake headers and exhaust will all prove to be useless to the new setup. ull need to buy new headers intake and exhaust and ull then go sell ur old stuff for 1/3 their price.

27-04-2006, 10:25 AM
I agree. Don't mod your engine yet. Save up $10,000 and then put the K20A in. Your performance mods for your old engine won't fit on the K20A.

BiLL|z0r
27-04-2006, 12:59 PM
I agree with Aaron, save some more $$ and just do the engine change. The basic I/H/E mods for your current engine are just a waste of $$ if your considering a K20 later.

StrawberryFace
27-04-2006, 10:23 PM
You can go for a pair of coilovers...the car will handle much better and when lowered it will look unreal ;). They'll be a godsend once you put that new motor in ;).

27-04-2006, 10:33 PM
ok its done.. thanks guys

im saving up for the K20 and im gana get my RIMS and lowering the car.

1.5" at the front

2" at the back and getting the lip. but i have to have my sports xaust and my intake filter.. make it sound mean.. but after that im saving up for k20.. i can get it now.. but i want to have spare money so just incase other mods for the engine..

thanks guys..

ey man it sounds like u can afford an k20 and further afford to power ur car to pull a 10s 1/4 mile, well then y dont u just buy a frieken NSX???? 10s stok
HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAAA

ur prob lookin at (IMO) at least $20k to make ur car do a 1/4 mile in 10s
$20k is enuf for a deposit on a $120k loan to get an NSX, LOL

Andw0o
28-04-2006, 02:59 AM
ahahahh nsx!? damn u krogoth, not every1 is ddoing the course thats gonna give them the money to go get a 100k car as soon as they are done :p

lol 20g!? to make a 10s car? lol well it all comes down to how much u like the car, if u like it do it, but if ur not gonna insure it or ne thing... i suggest u not... and save the 20g and put it on sumthing worth wild... like 1000000000000 lap dance! ;)

IMO 10s is very very tempting... i would like to see it done

k20 hits 10s easily ?

where did you get your resources from ?

aaronng
29-04-2006, 02:14 AM
To hit 10.5 with a 200hp K20a, your car will need to weigh 896 lbs. That's 406kg....... Heck I think even a clubman is heavier than that!

29-04-2006, 09:10 AM
i got sources from US..

they have EGs doing 10s ezy...

K20'z very popular... in US.. if u get a k20 now without doing any internals. an EG will do ezy 12s.

the kick in point of a sohc vtec is 5400 rpm and a red line of around 7200rpm but optimum gear change is at 6900rpm so set up 2 shift lights at these points and your sweet

29-04-2006, 10:30 AM
20grand to do 10s? now that im not sure about... your gona have to do a fair bit of work to the motor, weight reduction and sussie and anchors for it to be safe/drivable...
Are u willing to spend 20+ grand on ur eg? when at the end off the day u will loose alot of money
As for kick in of VTEC in a d16y1, mine kicks in at 5100 (but not for long ;)) but no one has said the same thing lol

krogoth
29-04-2006, 06:54 PM
yeh man, gettin ur car to pull 10s is gonna b hard, even with a k20

ur sources in the U.S say its easy coz over there they like, "shit, u only spendin $20k to do up yoor car??? thats nothin!, I just spent $100k on my 1967 mustang"

i rekon with basic mods(piping, extractors, pod, ecu, etc) after a k20 transplant, ull prob pull 12.8-13.1s, i dont think ull get somethin less than that unless u start doin crazy stuff, like TT, LOL

but i stand corrected

X over on the DOHC is 6000rpm (atleast it is on friends ITR) and redline is 8500 from memory ( his is 9500)

SOHC is 5400RPM with 7200 redline.

G-NOS, 10s on an NA Motor or Boosted?

To do 10s on an NA Motor, you will need to have really deep pockets.

Boosted, more possible.
