For a DC2 VTi-R, the stock 15" rims weight 15lbs. I'm moving to lightweight 15x7's (hopefully Volk TE37's @8lbs if they aren't too expensive). Just a couple questions.

Whats the widest tyre width I can go on x7's? 215? 225?
If I can go 225, is it worth doing? I know I'll need the guards rolled.

I just wanna make sure, if I forked out the went with 225/60(?)/R15 on Volk TE37's (performance tyres yet to be chosen) AND had to get my guards rolled, that it would make a noticable handling and/or acceleration improvment.

Anyone know typically how much it would cost to get the guards front and back on a DC2 rolled to withstand 225's without ANY scrubbing under hard braking and cornering?

Is it legal to go from stock 195/60/R15 to 225/60(?)/R15?

i'd stick to 205s to be honest.
ive had 215s before and the front was scraping heaps.
back can be rolled.. im not sure about the fronts.
if you want good handling, get yourself a set of good tyres. :)

205's wont scrape under hard cornering and braking?

I would prefer 225's as when I go forced induction I'll need all the traction I can get.

mayb u should consider getting some lower profile tyres as well. 60 seems a lil fat? 50 or 55 should b good, and it'll certainly help wth minor scraping problems as well since the overall diamater of the rims/tyres will b smaller comparing to 60/r15.

If i raise my car up another inch...no it wont scrape
but atm...its scrapes a little around hard corners....and sometimes it scrapes on harsh roads... for e.g Paramatta rd! :)... that has got to be one of the worse roads man.

Gday mate, my opinion for what its worth is.. You said you are going forced induction, if you are going for a straight line only type rig then yes of course go the biggest tyre width wise you can get. I cant remember the legality of 30mm difference but if you google it its not hard to find ive found it before. Guard rolling as you said will be a necessity but its only about 50 a corner thats what i was quoted for my mazda 6 when i had that. As for the difference to handling and braking it may not be what you expect. Braking will be far better yes but handling probably not. On a skidpan with 225s you will have quite high lateral grip for sure however you will definitely feel they change the character of the car entirely. It will be crap through slower corners and will not be as chuckable at all. As far as fun goes you will lose it and in honesty around the tighter corners you'll be little quicker than stock if at all. If you go 205s you'll have a good compromise mate for sure. Your wheel choice is good and you will gain a reasonable amount of acceleration but you will have more fun on 205s and you will have massive traction with the right choice of tyres. The only thing they may struggle with is drag track days with forced induction but really it depends on what you want.

From experience though, ive had a crx before this one. I dont know if you've driven one but theyre incredibly fun. I could be going around a tightening apex sharp exit off a highway for example in the rain and tap the accelerator to push the front an easy 30cm shift at a time and dab the brakes for a similar rear out step. It was so adjustable and controllable it wasnt funny. On a faster corner though on the standard rubber it didnt inspire me. I thought bigger the better and went 205 45 16s. It was incredible the lateral acceleration it would maintain on bigger corners and large roundabouts but gone was the chuckability and adjustability and it felt slower thru the tightest corners as a result. It just lost me some crx character. Thus for this one im going 195 50 15 in the hope of a best of both worlds scenario.

As for your tyres mate, i would honestly go Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD3's without a doubt. Everyone will have a different opinion but these tyres are incredible. I had them on the mazda 6. In the dry they are fantastic, they offer incredible grip and wear quite well. More than that though they are truly a quiet tyre, seriously. But where they will blow you away is when the weather turns to cr^p, they have phenomenal grip. You can push and push and push and they will offer feedback aplent and grip as though the road has never seen rain. So efficient is their water dispersing tread pattern that the tyres could be made to screech as though the road is dry because they are dissipating so much water. Honestly ive no contacts in tyre sales or anything but i will give these tyres a right rant, they deserve it. Better still they are well priced too, 195/50/15 for 180 each normally but i was quoted 140. 205's would be similar. I guarantee anyone anywhere if you bought these tyres you'd be 100% satisfied.
