Hey,
i noticed not long ago that my battery was getting a bit weak (sounded like it was turning the engine over slow). I opened the little caps on it and noticed no water.
I then filled this up with distilled water, but filled them up quiet alot, like to the brim. Now my battery wont hold a charge for more that a few hours (had to push start my car to get to uni and then again when i finished)
So is my battery dead? Or do i take some water out?
What battery to people recomend, I dont nedd n e $300 ones as the NRMA one lasted in the car since ive bought it (2yrs ago) with out probs (till now). I was thinking this Champion one from repco, $93 but its one of them zero maintenece ones (has none of them little caps)
thanks for your help :thumbsup::thumbsup:

wtf ur not suppose to fill them all the way to the brim!
What is the proper water level? Ideally, the water level should be no higher than 1/8 inch below the bottom of the vent well. To avoid irreparable damage, make sure the electrolyte level never drops below the top of the plates. Also, avoid over watering, which may result in electrolyte overflow.
How do I check my water level and add water? Interstate low-maintenance batteries have removable vent caps, which may be pried off with a flat-head screwdriver. Once removed, you will see individual vent wells. Look down into each individual cell to make sure that the water is covering the lead plates and is at the proper level. Add water to any cells that are low on water. Always use distilled water to fill the battery in order to prevent chemicals from contaminating the battery. Be careful not to overfill the vent wells. The fluid should cover the lead plates in the battery and be no higher than 1/8 inch below the bottom of the vent well.

hey bud.. sounds like your starter motor might be loose.. well if your car doesnt hold charge its either your start motor cables are loose or your alternator is fecked..
my advise is drive the car the way it is
untill it dies.. and if you try to start the car and you hear rapid clicking its your starter motor.. if in anther case ur alternator is goneskies.. just go to buy a alternator they would probably charge you 150 at GPC .. then DIY..
edit.- if you havent looked at your batt for 2 yrs man its time for a batt change. i bought one for 90 bux. good luck

hahaha that's why you buy one with like 3 yrs warranty you don't need to bother until its like 2 yrs otherwise get it changed!

i dont get why my alternator would be stuffed if my batt cant hold charge.
like if i stop the car, and go for a 20 min walk, it will start ok. But if i leave the car for a couple of hours, the clock resets, lights really dim etv etv.
no probs while driving, so im guessing alternator is ok

yeah i was saying it could be. ur alternator.. but this problem sounds more like the starter motor.. hop to the mechanics and get em to check it out. as i said previously
it could be somthing simple as ur start motor wires are worn or just loose.

But would the lights dim and clock reset due to this?

Definately a battery problem.
If it was Starter:
Tick noise but no or screeching crank = brushes dead. do hammer + screwdriver test
No Tick = Solenoid
if it was alternator:
he'd be able to start it when the battery has a charge but it will keep running off the battery. it will keep driving and start stalling, start blowing black smoke and half ur petrol tank disappears in 15-30mins from flooding just to make power. once you turn car off and try to start again it will barely or not crank at all.
