hey im just curious, i have NO idea what to do at the moment about my car...

i could either rebuild my current engine which died and get cams and forgies and stuff (redy for turbo) or i could get a b16 vtec engine and just put that in..what would u rather do?

im lookin more towards the new b18 nonvtec engine, coz then i can keep my car for longer (fix up all the little stuff wrong with it too), then when its all nice and purdy id look at turbo.

but yeh what would u do in my situation?

thanks :)

B18a with aggresive cams will blow a b16a away!!

Yeah B18A turbo. Show those B18C what B18A can do.

think the tribe has spoken ..

i mean the b16a is nice, but the thought of doing internals of the b18 just will blow it away.

the only integra to come with a b16a is the DA6 ('93 model?)
b18a came with the da9 integras
whereas the b18b came with the dc4 (gsi integra)

B18A.. lol.. but what kind of work would you need to do?? to get quick??

with non vtec motors, i wouldnt bother modding it at all, it seriously isnt worth the amount of money u put in for such minimal gains!
non vtec, go FI imo, or if u an NA fanatic, do an engine transplant!

Let me raise another question:

If you are going to turbo a non-vtec b18 is it manditory to build up the block (ie forged internals) or is that only in the case of pushing serious power/boost pressure?

Definately not manditory for you can apply a simple bolt on kit and run low boost without any issues - doin this will roughly gain u approximately 140-160kw atw.
Building the block up is for peace of mind imo, seeing that majority of b18a/b blocks are relatively old.
I dare say that about 90% of b18a/b engines are roughly 100K+ old, so it wouldnt hurt to spend a little bit more to ensure that the engine doesn't blow up.

wow for once gayball is posting some helpful info :p

as he said you don't HAVE to do the internals but it really just depends on how much power you plan on pushing. low boost it should be fine but if you want to up the ante a lil it's a smart idea to be safe and give the internals some work

standard b18c + turbo + 8psi = 150kws atw

thats what im running.

I wouldnt say 13s are out of the question for a N/A B18B.
Its been done.
And it could sure be done again.

If you're thinkin of achieving a good time down the 1/4, can u honestly justify spending THAT MUCH MONEY, on building a non-vtec block up to run 13s (keepin it non vtec that is).
Sure u can do it, but sometimes vtec motors have a hard enuf time achievin 13s.
Imo, if u have the spare cash or jst fcukn loaded LOL - then go for it, id love to see gsi non vtec run 13.
But if you're a bit of a tite ass like me, ;), then go F.I.

from what ive read the compression ratio will be diff in both and the non vtec engin's cam wont be as strong as the vtec son if u seriously choose to build it up either go the non vtec and do the whole thing or just fix up the vtec and turbo there is so many options to it i guess its just down to personal pref.

as some would say why just have vtec or why turbo? when you can have vtec turbo

well yeah man vtec turbo would be sweet supercharger wld be good too, as i said its personal preference/expected gains

cheers

Why fork out for turbo vtec cams???
Why decompress motor???
Why install a oil line pressure restrictor???
Why change Conrods???
There are so many more things that have to be done to the vtec motor to make it safe to run good amounts of boost,
all 4 of those things have to be done to a vtec motor.
Where as only 1 is a must for a nonvtec.

BTW cold fusion has baught a recon B18a,
He will be fitting crower cams to it aswell.
All for less than a b16a.

If your into straight line drag racing forget the S/C, a descent turbo setup will make it look all so slow.
