I test drove a 99 type r today, with 130,000km's on the odometer. Price was 20.5k from a dealer, drive away with new tyres, warranty and 12 months rego. Car drove nice, problem was the interior was really crappy. The seats had many faded patches and the passenger side doors cloth was showing some sort of white stuff through it.

Im just wondering, is this typical of aged dc2r interiors to get like this?

Would the car still be a good buy?

Here are some pics of some examples:

the interior of that is actually in pretty good condition.

Recaro make nice seats but there not the most durable or long lasting. For 20grand its a steal

good price... high k's but not ridiculous. Seats seem pretty good for 130K...thought he white stain on the door begs some questions...

']maybe they used some cleaner which was a bit too strong..

i've seen this happen when botchy steam cleans are done! its when the chemicals used arent vaccummed up properly and they leave white stains like this.. also i think it could be the type of chemical they use, some react to each other or the fabric and this could result! just a guess.. but i've seen similar stains like this happen at my work before! not the most professional nor satisfying results as customers have complained.. lol

you can get a much lower price than that, about 18k. Look at the condition and the km... and plus its already 99, that's not recent. Put your foot down!! :P

Do what I do when I buy a car.

Now you know the car, you know it's $20K, you know the dealer knows your interested. So when you go back, go back with a bank cheque for $18k. Listen to all his uneducated shit he'll throw at you, and go sounds good. THen when it comes to do the real deal, pull that cheque out and be absolutely ready to walk away,

He'll pretend as if you just killed his first born, then he'll say his boss will kill him, then he'll say some shit about not making any money from this (now is a nice time to inform him you honestly dont care about his problems). Then when you'd had enough of his excuses, just say you have 5 minutes to give me an answer or I'm out of here and I won't be back.

Guarantee you the car yard paid $15k for that car, and I guarantee you you'll get it for $18k. Don't accept any bullsihit like 'removing 12 months warranty' or anything.

if you could get it under 20g....say around 19g it'd be a awesome buy

make sure you get it all mechanically checked too, if thats all clear GO FOR IT!

for 19g, if the condition of the interior really pisses you off that much, you could retrim the doors and buy some new recaros....you'd have a near-new interior for afew hundred bux...(thats taking into account you sold your old seats)

New recaros ain't only a few hundred bux. I'd say brand new, they'd be $800 each!

yep and second hand rear seats dont come cheap either. Seen em for up to $200. Door trims also dont come cheap unless you go spotlight and buy some material to fix it yourself. But since you can sell and replace parts it wont be that expensive for you so long as you sell your things first.

So to get second hand rear seats, passenger side door trim, and new recaros, how much would i be looking at?

More than that, I got a set 2nd hand (Black) for close to that (each) I think someone here said the DC5R Recaros were like $7000 new, for the pair (insurance), my guess would be that DC2R (SR3's) would be around $3500 new for the pair, maybe more

id say thats a good buy.. u could most likely get it for a grand or more off .. the condition of the recaros are pretty normal.. i mean it has done 130,000 so ud expect alot of pedestrian traffic to have been thru those seats.. i say jus throw on seat covers and wen u got the money go retrim them..

for the rear seat.. i duno ahah

as said before check with a black light i guess.. but looks more like a dodgy clean job

if its mechanically sound.. its all good..

as i said in my above post...thats taking into account that he sold his old ones...example

Brought new ones - $1600
Sold old ones - $800

Change over = $800

$800 = afew hundred bux

hmm I always thought that the door inserts were CF.
Or is that for more recent dc2r's?.

The fading on the seats is pretty normal I am sure. Usually caused when fat pricks try to sit in it.

a little off topic but where do you buy the recaros for that price from?

Im wondering why most dc2r's for private sale are advertised at around 24-26k? This seems to be very expensive and far in exceedance of the red book prices:

Trade in price guide* $13,500 - $15,400
National average price - private sale* $16,400 - $19,500

Do people really get around 25k for their dc2r's?

mr crex

yes they do.

talk the dealer down a couple grand... then speak to one of the traders on here... they have door trim, front seats and I think also rear seats for sale... then with the extra $$$ you knock down buy replacement parts.

here's the Trader Thread...

all of redbook's quotes are far under the actual sale prices..
redbook isn't a very reliable source when it comes to quotes.. try actual sale sites like carsales for a good estimate on prices.

A car with low Kms and in good condition will always sell. With type R's production stopped and type S' now being made I believe the R's will hold their value!

20.5... um try get the price down a bit. I bought mine in f**king good condition for 23 grand with 73,000 km's on the clock. It was listed at $26500. Also these white stains are not normal. Expect the side of seats to be crumpled, as all buckets do that... especially recaros.

Just walk in with a bank check for less. That's what I did. Bring the extra cash if u deperate for it, and if the guy says no.

Yeah, as others have suggested, take a bank cheque with what you think is a fair price and put it under his nose and give him a sniff!

If he bite, he bites!

The stains should come out, there's been plenty of threads about how to clean seats! But door trims (quite suspicious looking stains!). My 2c!
