Honda's Accord Euro 2.2 i-CDTi turbo-diesel gets rave reviews but remains 18 months away. Interesting, and with the way petrol prices are these days, it should sell pretty well I reckon. Would you buy one?

I prefer a petrol engine. But I may change my mind in two years if fuel prices get too crazy.

If sold here the sophisticated unit would be a $3000 to $4000 premium above its petrol engine equivalent. :o

Torque is a strongpoint. The in-line twin-cam four produces 103kW at 4000rpm and a muscular 340Nm from 2000rpm so there’s an almost instantaneous response in any gear. :)

It will rev eagerly to the 4500rpm redline and Honda says it will hit 100km/h in a claimed 9.4 seconds.
..compared to the petrol euro man 7.8sec. If there's an Auto, expect ~12sec :(

i dont see how a diesel would sell better, its more expensive than normal fuel...

But if you work out the cost per per km, it's actually saving you money, also premium unleaded (we run that for Euros) and diesel are the same prices but only for certain drivers....

Petrol Euros run average 9L per 100km so it's effectively AUD$1.45 X 9 Litres = AUD$13.05 per 100km

Diesel versions run at 5.4L per 100km so it's AUD$1.45 X 5.4 Litres = AUD$7.83

AUD$ 4000 premium and using the petrol savings of AUD$ 5.22 per 100km, it will take 76628Kms of driving to make back the premium...

So if you are a traveller that clocks up lots of kms.. It's worth it...

Diesel engines also lasts longer and they hold their value higher too.....

Conclusion.... Goes both ways depending on the driving you do....

I've read user reviews of the CTD-i. What the guy found was that for normal driving where you shift at 3000rpm, the diesel was quicker. It was only when you exceeded the 4500rpm redline of the diesel when the 2.4L petrol then overtook the diesel. Gear for gear in normal driving, the CTD-i was described as having more pull, much better for normal driving. Plus, fuel consumption was lower in the CTD-i than the petrol engine. Now with diesel about the same price as 98 oct, I wouldn't mind the diesel, just strictly for normal driving. No more aggressive VTEC sound though.

If it was me, if I was strapped for cash and the CTD-i cost the same as the base Euro, I'd get the diesel. You know what I want? The 4WD diesel wagon Euro. Drool....

with the stated fuel consumption, will the diesel car emits more pollution than petrol??
IMO, if you want to save up from fuel .. hybrid is the way to go!
less money for petrol and less pollution but maybe an echo will smoke the euro :P

Cant see the business case. MY leases only do 50 000km before i turn them over. Id prefer a 150kw Euro with a 1300kg weight to save fuel and increase performance. Or heaven forbid a EURO HYBRID!

You certainly won't get a 1300 kg hybrid! They're heavy...

Also, something that I hadn't realised until recently -- the batteries in hybrids apparently last about 8-10 years -- and then you're up for 5-10K (probably more than the value of the car) for new batteries!

Bring on the hydrogen revolution!

Are you serious on that turbo Euro? K23A1 goodness in the Euro would be nice... But will they do it without implementing SH-AWD? Or will they use the chassis off the 4WD Accord Euro?
