i have a d15z1 vtec-e in my 93 civic sedan and it really bites, so if i was to swap in a d16 from say a civic coupe vti and the transmission too it shud pretty much be a straight swap and not cost too much right? Would i actually be able to keep my original transmission, it can do 100 in 2nd gear at 6000rpm no kidding. imagine how fast it wud b going at 6800rpm haha... but then again a shorter gearbox wud benefit the acceleration more. oh and also my transmission makes a weird scraping noise that is constant with the engines rpms unless i depress the clutch then it stops. and when i decelerate it gets even louder.

sounds like the input shaft bearing (someone correct me if i'm wrong).

There is a DIY http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12789 but its quite a large job, gear box out, disassemble, swap bearing, reassemble.

yeah saya is right sounds like your ISB

you can heep your D15Z1 box, but you will want to fix it while its out of the car.

the sooner you fix the ISB the less carage their will be in your transmition and the less parts yo uhave to replace.

a B16A will be a nice replacement if yo can get one with an MT box and shafts, as your loom is already capable of VTEC and heated O2, but a D16 will also be ok, but you will have to modify the wiring a bit. ( most D16y looms from EK are one peice ) a OBDI ZC D16a will be a straight bolt in. :)

a d16y1 will be bolton. Is your vtec-e carby or EFI? If its carby u will have more work to doo..

VTEC-E is EFI.
You could bolt on the D16Y1 head to the VTEC-E block which is essentially the D15B VTEC engine like my old civic used.

D15Z1 block is exactly the same as the D15B VTEC block... Just need the D16Y1 pistons. More info on the D15B parts here (http://www.d-series.org/forums/showthread.php?t=17840)

Best of all, because your using the existing block, no hassles with getting a different engine number approved.

This way, you could fit some hi compression aftermarket D16 pistons and use your wiring with the P08 ECU(your engine is a P07, note the block part number in the above link and the P07 stamped on your ECU) or use a P28 ECU and get someone to chip it.
