Hi guys,

I was hoping someone would help me try and work out why my engine's heating up... coz i'd rather not waste time and money getting it wrong.

The temp used to creep up only when the car's at the lights and then start to go back down after i take off and at considerable speed eg. 60km/h +

i have flushed out my radiator coz i saw rust in the coolant and thought this would solve the problem but it hasn't gone away.

My mechanic checked it out and said the radiator fan wasn't kicking in so he connected a wire from ignition to the fan so the fan is constantly on now...
and i thought this would fix the propblem but Now it still overheats but differently.. now when i'm travelling the temp creeps up and when i'm at a traffic light it starts to creep down...

Sometimes when it creeps up it goes all the way up to just under the red mark so i'm forced to put it in neutral to try and make it come down...

it never seems to stay horizontal like it should... on a good day it will stay 2/3rds the way up.

can anyone give me an idea what i need to fix???

:( :(

is the fan turning on?
if it doesnt then it's your fan switch or thermo stat.
if it all turns on etc
then your problem is most likely stuffed out radiator.
either get it reco'd for 120 ish
or get a new 1
i had the same problem.
had rust in my radiator.
turned out to be a dead radiator

Civic VTIR: either way your best off getting the water pump and radiator checked out properly. If either fails on you itll be an expensive lesson. Rust in the radiator is already a bad sign and only proves that the radiator is not doing the job it was meant to do. The water pump should be replaced around the same time as when the timing belt was change (have you had this changed? inspected?)

All in all the radiator is no longer efficient.. best to do as previously suggested (recon or replace) itll be cheaper than fixing the engine!

water pump, thermostat or radiator.

watch out otherwise u will warp/crack the head from overheating. always stop when it goes past half way!
