I had a Vafc on my Civic coupe D16y8. Didnt get it tuned, I just fiddled around with the engagement and the a/f sxale thingy :P Car sounded sharper in hi-cam. Didnt make the car any faster but did eat more fuel in some occasions and sometimes was very efficient. Waste of money I reckon!

why would anyone bother?

even on b16a/b18c i wouldnt really think it was worth it. in my opinion either you run the car fairly stock hence not needing an ecu, or if you do enough to the car to require tuning you get a proper ecu to make it worth your time

positive feed back only please.

ive dyno tuned my car and it is running too lean for my liking... i need it to richen up a bit and i want to fix the deadspot i have in the rev range..

if you have a personal experience then i would like to hear it.. but if you dont then dont say anything at all.

mate i'm not having a go at ya, i'm just giving an honest opinion as i've seen vafc's do more harm than good on most setups ranging from civics to tegs, prelude vtir's and even accords.

sorry if u took offence but like i said i'm not having a go at ya, i just think there's no point in feeding you with shit that you will get massive gains from it

i understand it wont be massive gains. but im just wanting to the map to richen up a bit and fix a dead spot on my car.

if it can do that then its wat i need .. if not then its not .. but i want to know what people have come across.

not that I've done this myself but I would think that assuming the engine is internally stock then the best thing to do is take it to a specialist Honda mechanic or reputable dealer to check and re-tune to factory specs.

have you tried even reseting the ecu?
it's helped me in the past when the car wasn't running as nice as usual, it's like a 15 min job. either just unplug the battery or even just remove the fuses (there is DIY in DIY section i think)

once u run exhaust and have high flow intake

ur a/f is leaner due to more air getting in..

resetting the ecu mite help a little but it wont fix all the problems..

i was thinking use a adjustable fuel pressure regulator to richen it up but im still concerned with the dead spot.

Ok some true positive feedback here...
It CAN BE DONE... WITH GAINS too.
A mate of mine who use to own an accord had a VAFC on his SOHC VTEC cd5.
anyways.. He had a before dyno and then had the VAFC installed and tuned on the dyno... to his suprise was a 5kw gain @ his front wheels. With the tuner announcing with more time (more money of course) may be able to pull off 1 or 2 more KW @ the wheels.. but he was satisfied with 5kw...
Not only with a power gain but also a smoother acceleration when he stepped on it he said that it was worth it. Just be aware if the tuner is inexperienced it will cost u more becuase of time labour...

bearing in mind that the accord has alot more torque than your d16y1. that could be why gains were noticed. You might not see such a gain for your engine. Answering your question it is definitely possible to change your map and get it running.

there is no reason it can't be done

it may not be worth it though
