For a DC2R, Does anyone know if theres enough room in front of the passenger side airbag to fit gauges? Im considering cutting 3 holes to flush mount them (airbag sits on top) ? :)

think that you will find that modifying the crash pad is illegal in most states

Jomsy - im gonna get everything engineered after its done so it should be ok hopefully.

incoming - yea i saw the pics on the other thread but i dont like how it covers the clock and sticks out of the dash.

thanks for your input guys.

ah_huh, maybe like jomsy said its probably illegal ,thus even when you get them engineered, the engineer will tell you that to get it legal you have to take them out and replace the crash pad...

Mate that is just common sense, you dont put anything on top of that crash pad, its just silly to think that you would!

why dont you get DIN Gauges like me ;) ;)

they're in a much cleaner/out of the way spot, and there's no trouble viewing them while going down the straight at the track.

MR CREX - hav u got any other pics of your interior from diff angle?
looks really good.. did u make a custom gauge holder for ?
how much did it set u back with those 3 gauges?

EDIT.. i just researched and realised that its one whole peice..
how much did it set u back anyway?

this looks bad ass! where and how much? prob a bit cleaner than badhbt's gauge holders

I would say with the bags - ah, no! if u actually mean fitting them into where the air bag flys out! otherwise on the non air bag modles there should be heaps of room.

I think they're around the $900 mark from JDMYard... speak to Yonas or Zi

yeah they're a whole DIN unit with the gauges and controller all inside the box... really clean and easy setup.

umm interior shots...

common sense? who said anything about putting it on top of the airbag? im not that dumb i dont think. i said " in front ". i dunno if u guys know about the airbags but the passenger side airbag pops out the top and covers the front. It has nothing to do with obstructing the airbag whatsoever. All i asked is how much clearance is there.

lol, back in 1989 nissan used that style in their gtr's.

Ok, ive answered my own question. There is over 85mm clearance from the front of the dash to the airbag. The gauge only requires 37mm of room. Thanks for all your input.

as long as they dont obstruct the airbag or any other important parts behind the dash that looks fine...bit far from the driver though... if you can angle them to face the driver would be alright. if you just putting them in from show then straight flush.

AH_HUH
16-05-2006, 12:38 PM
ill try to angle it... gonna be a long and hard proccess..... :)

I'd prefer DIN mounting. Easier to see.

As long as you can angle them it will be usable.

try and buy like 30 cm of alloy piping and cut it at an angle..

JasonGilholme - i cant use din mounting because i have a double din tv in the slot.

Blitz - im just gonna get peter @ bodyform to angle it. his doing carbon fibre centre consol and door inserts for me already so i guess this should be easy for him.

incoming - i just got off the fone with peter and he says he'll try do it after my other carbon fibre parts which should be in a couple of weeks so ill take fotos of it in the process.

I got big plans for the car but little money! hahahaha oh well, we'll see how long it takes for everything to be done.

or you can put it on top of the dash....however in doing so you will cover the clock in the center though......you also need to buy a gauge holder for it too.

AH_HUH

nah ive seen it done in badhbt's car, id rather cut the holes and angle them.

i don't get why people put gauges on the opposite side of the dash. wouldnt the most logical/convenient thing be to mount them somewhere that is easily and readily visible while driving? (ie. not having to turn your head and look across the cabin)

sorry to bring up an old thread but as mentioned above
"illegal to put anythin on crash pad"

i was look at buying a dc2r dash and fitting it to my dc4 not having the airbag funcioning though..

i was gunna put a 8" screen that flips up when i want.... would this be classified as being on the crash pad and therefore illegal

thanks

dw about bringing up a new thread, better than spamming...

If u put the screen where the airbag should be than no it wont be where the crash pad is, the crashpad is in front of it, right where AH_HUH mounted his gauges. It may classify as an illegal dashboard modification though, however i dont know much RE the law in this case.
