Hi guys!

well as I was driving to work this morning, I flip the sunroof up (cos it was sunny for once in melb…) and get to work -> I try and close the roof and nothing happens! So I turn the car off and usually the car will shut the roof as soon as the keys are out -> nothing.

I waited a bit and tried again -> nothing

No sound or motor whirring like usual. I’ve tried opening/closing but both do nothing.

Since I’m at work, I’m wondering if any of you had any idea about what it could be.

My car is a DC2R.

I’ve never had problems with the roof….help?

sunroof switch is broken...happened to me once. there are two pins inside the switch which are made out of plastic and they easily snap. trying opening the switch button.

I will try this - but as a noob question was it an easy fix? cost?

i guess you could just get a temporary two-way switch just to close it, then buy the genuine switch from a parts store?

Dont know on the DC2 but on the DC5 there is a manual dial on the ceiling behind the sun roof. Kinda looks like a flat plug with a groove in that you can screw to retract the sunroof. May be the same if factory fitted.

i think ive got that in my DC4, never knew what it did

as you know a plug is gonna be expensive, the best way to get it would be with a screwdriver off another dc2/dc4 with a sunroof at the auctions, cheaper (free)

As stated above, should be a manual closer on roof lining.
Close it halfway & try to open electrically,if it works not a fuse or relay(with ign on of course).
What auto closes it btw, alarm or similar or is this a factory thing?
If you cant manual close it,just remove switch, disconnect it,identify live wire,ie 12v to ground(think its green).Identify ground wire(usually black),check for good ground on this while ur there(ie 0-low ohms from pin to chasis)
Should be 4 wires 12v(green),ground(black),2 motor wires(both green with a coloured stripe usually).
Then bridge black to a motor wire &bridge 12v to other motor wire,it will move one way.
If nothing happens swap motor wires around the other way,it will move this time(hopefully).
If it does move try motor wires the original way to make sure it goes the other way.
if this all works then its ur switch.Dont throw it away just yet, open it up & check its not just dirty or pitted terminals,if so just give it a light clean with nail file or sandpaper until its shiny again.Ive done this a couple of times already with my crx & prolonged its life
If it doesnt work then u gotta start lookin at the motor ,limit switches etc & this gets ugly

Thanks for that CRXer...

Well i had a bit of a play when i got home.

It's not the fuse. The fuse box diagram shows that the sunroof is shared with the door lock -> and that is working fine. Checked it anyway -> looked ok

I checked the switch connectors -> no burnt bits or fluff or anything..so that looks ok....the best way to test is with a circuit tester but unfortunately i aint got one!

Also, there is no manual screw or plug. I've had to make room in the garage and park it in there and cover the gap as best as possible

I'm now thinking its the wiring somewhere or the motor :(

Gonna go visit a shop in burwood tomorrow before work...hope its ok..

There is 2 fuses associated with the sunroof. The one u checked just pulls in the relay on ignition.
There is also a 30A fuse for the motor supply itself, located under dash on early DC2 & located in engine bay for later models.
Sounds like u got some aftermarket gear there,so i could be entirely wrong.
Also did u check inside switch 4 burnt terminals or just the pins on the back,i meant inside.
BTW how does ur roof autoclose when ign off? Alarm or factory setup? There could also be some sort of prob here.

Update!
Well took it up to prestige sunroofs in burwood...quite nice people.
The guy had a look at my car and tested the wires in the switch -> it wasnt getting power.

he checked the fuse and the crimp holding the 2 wires was a bit lose and contact wasnt ideal. Tightented it, tested the switch -> it was getting power again

Sunroof worked fine! :D

So easy fix...glad it wasnt the motor. haha

Thanks for all the ideas guys...much appreciated.
