hey guys,

i've been looking around a bit and cant seem to find what i'm looking for.

ive got a D16 ... and wanted a complete exhaust..

can someone explain to me the pros and cons of each one...

someone told me that 4-2-1 are good for top end ..while 4-1 for low revs ...

but no clear facts ...

much appreciated.

Thanks

thats correct:

4-2-1 = good bottom end, average top end
4-1 = average bottom end, good top end

what makes a 4-1 a good 'top end' extractor is because of the way its designed - to allow maximum flow of gases as soon as they leave the cyl.head ports.

To clarify/confuse more, all extractors have crap bottom end. 4-2-1 have good mid range, better than stock top end but no huge gain, whilst 4-1 have crap low and mid but best gains up top. Most people in daily drivers get 4-2-1as you don't drive at 7000rpm all the time (at least I don't).

Every set of extractors is different, some are 4~1 and others 4~2~1.

But, it also comes down to the lengths & diameters of the pipes. Some designs could make lots more power at low rpm, some thru the midrange and others at max rpm.

It all depends on your driving style as to what suits you best. If you like bouncing off the rev limiter, a set of 4~1 are prob for you but for street driven cars, 4~2~1 are the choice.
