I mean there are EGs, EKs, etc... for the other Civics, and I'm trying to figure out what the Australian one is called.

Reading the wikipedia article; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Civic

... I've figured it's likely called the FA (scroll down a bit and it's in the table on the right) under 4-door sedan. Can anyone confirm this is the same as the model used in Australia?

So it's called the FD1? I wonder if people will think it's trying to rip off the Mazda FD3S...

Second paragraph.

The VIN says FD though so perhaps you're right?

Yep its "FD".

Found a forum to confirm this, an FD-only forum:

FD = Futuristic Design? :p

But if someone asked u wot car you drove, would you really say FD?

Eg. 'hey wot car you drive?'

'oh i drive a FD...'

'omg you drive a RX7 FD3S!?'

'nope the new civic FD'

':confused: '

personally i call it the '8th gen civic' or new civic :p

Civic body codes are simply following the alphabet across their generations.
Honda isn't copying anyone...

LOL that's why I don't say FD... I say Civic, and then if they say which model, I'll say 2006. But maybe one day I'll start calling it FD1... (i think i said this already) but it's like the Golf R32. Even if it wasn't intentional, it still feels a bit like passing off.
