No point to having state specific sections imo...
Not one person has been able to state a single reason why this would make the forums better.

It has been discussed before and the only thing I see is that it will be harder to moderate.
In terms of meets/cruises everyone now puts [QLD] / [NSW] and so on in their titles

Not one person has been able to state a single reason why this would make the forums better.
1. easier to meet/talk to people from your own state.
2. can set up cruises easier.
2. talk about state specific events/news.
if you ask me thats 3 reasons why we need it here

Ok, here's my response to your 3 points:
1) easier to meet/talk to people from your own state.
OzHonda is a car forum, primarily concerned with creating an environment where Honda enthusiasts can talk about their cars and any issues concerned with them. OzHonda is a knowledge base, and shouldn't be mistaken for a meet and greet service.
In saying that though, an online forum allows for a great means for people to meet up and chat with people around their area. However, it's important to understand that we don't want to turn an information filled place, into a place where its all about meeting and greeting people. There are other means to do this.
If you wish to chat further with people that live around your area, feel free to use the PM system that has been implemented, or take it to MSN, ICQ or similar.
2. can set up cruises easier.
What's so hard about going to the Upcoming Events section of the forum, and simply adding tags at the start of each thread title, eg: [SYD], [MELB] etc?
3. talk about state specific events/news.
Again, similar to above.
If you wish to talk about an area specific news topic or event, simply create a thread in The Lounge, and add a tag to the beginning of the thread title.
It really isn't all that hard or complicated for people with half a brain!
Basically the first 2 points are the same thing, ie it makes it easier for people to meet each other etc etc. The third one is easily sorted out by doing what is stated in my response to your 3rd point.
I'll tell you why I feel that individual state sections are not needed:
Having the forums categorised into different areas of Australia only benefits and makes things easier for 2 minor functions of the forum:
a) Marketplace
b) Events/Outings.
In no way will this implementation have any benefit to the Technical, Appearance/Gallery, Model Specific, and Community forums on OzHonda.
Making such a huge implementation like this, the change must warrant for more than just two areas of benefit - areas which bare more of a weighting as well might I add.

Like qball said........but basically we want the focus to be on model specific/technical discussions.
Having state specific sub-forums will move away from this and make it harder to moderate.
Just use the [STATE] prefix and things will be fine.

Im sorry shitbrick, but you really need to work on your grammar!
Let me ask you something, why do you find it so difficult to simply put a [SA] or [ADL] tag at the start of the thread?
South Australian members will see your thread if you put the appropriate tag on it.

Ive thought about this a lot...and I still dont think its a good idea.
Im interested to see how you ppl, who are for it, would implement this.
How would you categorise the forums?
Give us an example of how the structure of the forums would look like?
sh*tbrick
26-05-2006, 11:24 PM
first thanks for giving it some thourt. To start with put in a spotted, events, general discussion, menbers projects and help threads in each sub-forum for each state. you can put the sub-forums in the "community" part of the forum and i dont think it would be hard to do.
well people i think that is way if any body eles got another way?

Thats not really specific man, I still dont see the structure in it...pan it out for us like a tree diagram!
Do realise, that what you are asking for, will mean a COMPLETE restructure of the forums.
Do you honestly think this is worth it, considering it will only benefit 2 minor areas within OzHonda, Events/Outings and Marketplace?
The other 75% of OzHonda discussions are general across the board and cant be categorised into different states - eg: a B18C from NSW is the same as a B18C in WA.
You still havent convinced me im sorry!

Just because other car forums have it doesn't mean that we have to :)
But in all honesty.....the main 'benefit' I see for it is in the Events/Outings area. Seperating the "For Sale" forum into regional areas is just going to make it harder to navigate.

Dont get all shitty about not getting your way!!
You sound like a little kid there - sulk sulk :p!
You have yet to provide a decent and legitimate reason for making such a drastic change!
Whats more, you have NOTHING to say about the points against your own!
I think mods can close this :)

i dun see the exact point for creating diff sectoin for each state.. i m quite happy with how it is not.... when u say mods not willing to do extra work ... keep in mind that ... mods dun get PAID for wat they do....may i ask u ... wat have u done to the forum? wat have u as a user contributed.? and wynnode clearlt stated thats its not really necessary. as it ll only benefit. on organsing meets etc. and can alkways use the title [STATE]... and i think that clear enf for everyone to see. plus there isnt a meet every second hour anyway. most of them r just weekly meets. u post an idea up .. good on ya... but that doesnt mean that u ll have it the way u want it to be. thats y we have site dis. and dun complain becoz u dun get wat u want. there is a reason behind it. and i have suggested a few ideas for the forum too.. and wasnt accepted... that still didnt make me go and have a cry ... coz most of us here r grown adults.

the worst thing about having different sections for different states is that you'll only talk to people from your state and won't get to know those in other states unless they have a really nice car
like VIC ppl wont know many syd ppl unless u have a car like nico's NSX
with the current ozhonda system we're talking to people all around oz rather than just ur neck of the woods. it is in the end OZhonda not NSWhonda or HURSTVILLEhonda

That’s what I love about this forum everyone is all together. I wouldn’t have time to read some of the technical, lounge and an extra state sub forum.

.. from my point of view.. if it counts, it might be nice just to have spotted, events and help on mechanical like for those people who always post on the lounge asking "where in xx state can i get my exhaust, sound, xxx installed etc" and that these particular types of threads as a guideline, im not asking for a "lounge" type section, but something strictly car related which would be better answered by people in that state. it wouldnt take away from the lounge but rather clean it up abit by gettin less threads which are unrelatable to the whole OH community

Gotta agree with sass, add 5 forums for the major states,2x events forums get moved to states forum, therefore adding only 3 forums in effect with the the post counts also in effect staying the same. All up just tidier IMO and more relevant.
On the other hand im not expecting anyone to do the work involved in achieving this,as i think a great job is done by all already.
Everyone does have a strong argument for not breaking up the community further though......
EDIT:Common marketplace is fine how it is with the above mentioned [NSW]etc added, but buyers/sellers i think should be held more accountable for keeping their threads updated with sold/please close comments,if not auto close in 4 weeks or something like.
It sounds like Qball & [N] will put their hands up for mod duties anyway.........

leave it as is!!!!!!!!
i still havent seen a good enough reason to change it.
marketplace is fine as is, i wouldnt want to have to search state by state for
the part i am after.
lounge is fine as it's 90% offtopic jibberish anyway
events is fine if you structure thread titles as instructed ie:
"[MELB] calder park drags - sunday 28th, May 2006"
i think having state by state sections will do nothing but divide the community more and make it harder to navigate

In the Events forums......if everyone consitently used [SYD] [VIC] [NSW] etc I can possibly put a link on the forum index page which will bring up threads that have these in their title.
Basically it does a search of the thread title for the above. However if the letters don't match (eg [SYDD]) It won't work.
