Whats the legalities behind this?
Is it perfectly fine? Do I need to get them engineered or anything? or is it straight Plug n Play and I won't have to get worried about being defected/insurance/etc.
Thanks

as above it will fit, plug and seat, you can do any thing to your car but when it comes time to insure the seats will require a engineers certificate , because of adr's and also wouldnt you like to know when you have an accident that your going to stay in the car..

If the recaros are OEM Honda your ok. Changing VTiR seats to Honda OEM Recaros does not warrant the necessity for engineers certificate. Simple plug and play

That was my question and the answer I was hoping for.
What defines OEM. I mean, is there an "exact" model/type of Recaro seat used in the DC2R? If so it means I have to match it exactly? ie. I can't use any old Recaro.
Can I just buy a 2nd hand pair of DC2R (Honda) Recaro's and be fine?

A second hand pair of DC2R (Honda) recaro's would be OEM.
OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer (i think?)
That means if these recaros were released in the DC2R, then they are OEM.
Im guessing by what Civic Type R said that this means you can use any Honda seats. i.e. EK9 Recaros, AUDM/USDM ITR Recaros or JDM ITR Recaro's etc.

Any second AUSTRALIAN Honda seats will be fine.
I'm not 100% sure about USDM/JDM etc seats as they are complied to over seas laws.
But yeh, any AUDM Honda seats are fine - and there's plenty of them around :)

And the centre console will be a tight squeeze, you'll have trouble opening the lid I think. The ITR has a smaller console with no storage compartment.

To get around that, I believe I swapped the driver side seat with the passenger side seat - cant quite remember now, but I remember being able to open the centre console lid all the way without any problems :)

Swapping the passengers with the drivers doesnt do a thing. Both seats are the same. Ive tried that too. Yes the centre console in the civic will be squeezed with Recaros but the integra 'may' be ok.
Shebangs, you wrote "Can I just buy a 2nd hand pair of DC2R (Honda) Recaro's and be fine?"
we just answered that question in previous posts and the answer is still yes.
