would taking out backseats in a fully standard dc2r effect the handling or height?

Not enough to notice anything.
You'll need to do more than that to notice some changes.
It also depends on how fast u plan on going round corners etc.

not really, it will get you a nice yellow sticker though.

See your friendly local police or RTA officer and they will gladly pass one on to you

i believe so...when the dc2r was made honda went for optimum weight balance...taking out ur backseats will put the balance of the car off

^Only by a very small degree!!
For general driving, the changes will be too small to notice.
It all depends on how well u know your own car, and how quick you plan on goin.

you'll lose whatever small bracing effect they had on the rear, and the weight difference will be minimal. You wouldn't really notice any difference in most cases

as above..
tyre r is tuned well.. but it isnt that perfect.. remove the seats wont make much different in terms of handline

the rear seats of the dc2r eights next to nothing

get more sway bars, esp for the rear, makes more of a difference

get more swaybars? you mean get a thicker one, right?

an aftermarket rear sway is one of the best handling mods you can do on a DC2R....and its of a decent price compared to other mods for the results you achieve.

Although the DC2R comes with a rear sway...a reliable a/market one will improve handling.

yeah u may get ones across the c pillars as well as the lower inside the boot across the 2 rear suspension

i think most ITRs only got the sway bar underneath the car but yeah not 100% sure
that's the way mine was

at the track i notice it actually makes a bit of a difference... to take out the seat that is... it can make track driving just a tat easier (might make street driving just that bit more dangerous for some tho)
the seats weigh a bit more then 10kgs and it just changes the car's balance and it makes the tail come out a little easier and at the track... that just makes the car a little easier to drive
its easier to take the optimal line, and you can power out just a little earlier due to the line
i.e. handling noticably better (a little bit)
out right time improvements under .2 of a sec at wakefield

0.2 sec is enough to win stock class in circuit club trackdays

I mean thicker.

Someone correct me if i am wrong, but i believe DC2R's came with 22mm front sway and 24mm rear sway.

Therefore, increasing the thickness of the rear sway should give you a different feeling. 26mm should be a good size.
And this might sound strange but some have said that a/market 24mm also makes a difference even though they are the same size. Take that how you will...

You got it the wrong way around. the rear is 22/23 and the front is 24/25, depending if its jdm(96) or not.

SLOWEGG is correct ^^^^ however I think the 25 & 23mm were JDM '98 spec not '96 (not 100% sure)

97+ and onwards are 1mm larger for both front and rear.

my bad! :D thanks for the correction.

24mm in the back is fine then..

this is correct. just watched the "Best Motoring Type R legend"

the 96 and 98 spec R's do the exact same 1/4 mile - un believeable ^_^

I think before everyone goes off on a tangent whilst answering this, we should wait for the thread starter to state WHY they want the rear seats out.
All the responses and answers being posted up are track orientated results, we dont know if that's the case yet!

Good reply there - + for Qball for teg mod in here y0 *e-slaps teg mods*

BTW ~ in all honesty taking a few kg's worth of weight out of the rear (above the rear axle line too...not the exact end of the car etc) , as said above will not affect the cars balance/handling and height to any great degree.

I have experience in this with my civic and it only makes MORE cabin noise...there are better ways to strip weight !

thanks for the replies guys...1 i wanted the rear seats out 2 go faster...but i didnt wanna lose any handling/balance of the car..wats some other ways 2 strip weight apart from backseat n spair tyre

the cheapest way to save weight is put lesser fuel....is it 1 lt = 1 kg??

Icegroove

air con...passenger seat...carbon hood. :) heheh

QFT

I always bring 2 jerry cans full of fuel to the track (40L). The petrol light should just come on during the cool down lap.

The whole philosophy of the Type R is that the easy weight reduction stuff has been done for you. To make any further and considerable reductions you will need to start replacing OEM parts with lightweight carbon fibre and titanium aftermarket bits pieces.

BTW things such as thinner front windshield glass and lighter aluminium radiator have already been done so this gives you some indication to the effort already put in by Honda.
