View Full Version : Alignment adjustment kit?

My tyres are wearing badly on the inside edges - they're now bald. I realise this is a result of having the car sitting low. The inside edges are working really hard - there are crease marks, and one of the sidewalls has split. So I'm badly overdue for new tyres.
I took my car in to check a few things out that were concerning me, apart from this (clunking noises from the front sussy, etc....), and I discovered a lot more is needing attention than I originally thought.
So apart from needing a new shock mount and endlinks for the front swaybar, I discover that I will need front and rear alignment adjustment kits to fix the tyre wear issue. I'd like to get this before, or very soon after I get new tyres. I'm told that these kits are basically new control arms, and are fully adjustable, rather than using a whole heap of offset bushes.
My problem is that these are so damn expensive (~$1.5k front and ~$600 rear), so I was thinking, maybe if I can source them from somewhere and take it back to get them istalled I may save a bit. Anyone know who makes these and where I can source them from in Brisbane?

Whoa.. thats expensive! IF your inside of your tyres and wearing alot quicker like you stated, wouldn't you only need camber kits to fix it? Could be wrong.
Should go to fulcrum and ask them for some help.

Excess negative camber and positive toe (toe out) will cause this wear. As far as I can see you only need an adjustable camber kit for front and rear, toe setting can be adjusted with factory setup. Different manufacturers offer different solutions for different models, I would have thought the EK would need replacement adjustable upper control arms front and rear for this instead of offset bushes.
Good luck

That's basically what the dude said to me. The alignment kits are replacement upper control arms, and are fully adjustable.

Excessive lowering basically stresses out almost every part of the your suspension, so a simple camber kit may not fix it. You may have developed cracks and fractures on arms, screwed up your bushes, etc etc.
these 'adjustable control arms' are just simply camber kits. I would recommend you find a decent trader from the states. they can get you Ingalls or SPC camber kits for your model (should be) for around $200 USD delivered for the rear and $300USD delivered for the front. The front is usually a balljoint style. Alternatively, you can get a whole upper replacement contorl arm (the U shaped bit).
Jump on www.iapdirect.com
for your reference, i got quoted $200 delivered for SPC rear camber kit for my US spec accord.
Are you able to give us an indication of how much your car has been lowered?

Heres a link in the States for the Integra ones, but they do Civics as well, just bought a set and was $159 US plus $65 US shipping to Sydney

Thanks SiReal and tseesinngwailo. I'll have a browse through those sites.

Car is riding on King super-lows (lowers about 40-50mm) and Koni Specials (reds) adjustable shocks.
hey Domen,
Cheap way to cure the rear camber (which cops more -ve camber than the front) is to get the whiteline rear camber kit, KCA370. Adds +1.0 camber on the rear, $18 bux cant go wrong.
Ingalls also sell camber kits for EK, and so does Skunk. JDMyard has Skunk front upper arm replacement and also rear upper arm replacement. They'll definately fix your camber probs, and easy to source too

Dunno man. I think it's just a function of having the car sit lower than standard (in my case almost 3 inches lower).....

DomenEk where about in Brisbane are you?
I know you have already taken to car in to get checked out, but did they say you need a Camber kit?
Take your car to a reputable suspension person to check it out. Pm me if you want a good suspension person.
And T-onedc2 'negative toe' = 'toe out"

Yes, I think it's well worth the $14.
They were great - told me everything, and even took me under the car and showed me everything they found, and explained everything in clear and simple layman's terms. They even pointed out to me everything they had concerns with and what they suggested I do. Answered all of my 60,000 questions too!
Since then I've rectified a couple of things myeslf (clunking/rattling noise coming from the front sussy was a loose shock mount, which took me all of 22 seconds to fix).

All you need is Adjustable Camber Kit for front and rear. That'll fix your problem, check out the Skunk2, you can get it from JDMyard, much better product than what the local products. You'll never look back.

how far out were your camber settings. Generally, that tire wear is from incorrect toe settings. Your camber has to be WWWAAAYYYY out(like 7 degrees out) before you start getting significant wear from the camber. Generally people see results after installing a camber kit because during alignment, the toe settings are corrected.

Just an update, be very careful about importing, i just got stung $200 on top of parts cost and freight, my $200 parts cost $567 in the end, OUCH
Airbagit.com never told me they were sending the parts in a bizarre COD for the freight kind of thing..

Thanks mate.
I'm looking at either the Skunk2 front and rear camber kits, or the Omni Power front and rear kits. Either going to purchase them from modacar.com (http://www.modacar.com/), or direct from the manufacturer. Or if I opt for the Skunk2 kits, I'll check out JDMyard.

just remember no matter how low - try to "rotate" your tires every 5 or 10,000kms to improve tyre life/wear.
IE front two move to the rear etc.
