since the petrol price rock up, i relised that lude is the most fuel uneffective cross the honda beside s2000.

a full tank of 95+ will only last 380kms. and that was when i driving like grandpa...
my car is a 99 VTI-R auto....

how about yours?

well last week i filled up on pemium unleaded 95 octane and managed to get 600 kms before i filled up again and that wasnt even on me redline empty..still couldve got another 50km i reckon as the 3rd gen ludes have a small reserve tank i hear of...but it cost me $70 but better fuel all depends how you drive it

380 is VERY low dude.. sounds like you may need to get it checked. Otherwise count the kms from a full tank and then how many litres you fill up after to give a more accurate reading.

well i got a JDM h22 in my accord and i get like 10km/litre. i normally get like 510+km with 50 litres of fuel and this involves the occasional sprints. you probbaly need a service or something. maybe cos your car is auto as well??

380km only and with grandpa driving? ur car has problems dude.

i get about 450-500km with regular driving and abit of VTEC here and there.

lets only compare 5th gens

all other gens get more mileage

for me i actually get better mileage when i drive it harder than a granddad

like shift at 3k rpm

for a full tank i get 450-480 on 95RON fuel. i only use caltex vortex

optimax does bad things to ur car cause shell cant reach 98 octane naturally and added heaps of additives to boost the RON. theres a in depth thread on www.preludeaustralia.com about it

when i go downhill i always chuck it into neutral (i have the tiptronic model)

also depends how many ppl u carry and how much luggage. im only ever in the car on my own, so i prolly get better mileage. and im using honda FEO oil which might help also

45 litres will get me 450-500k's.. normal driving with minimal vtecing

On the long road - (trip to gold coast from Canberra)

3 fill ups (1 full 45litres, 2 @ 25litres) and still have petrol left.. and thats using a mixture of Ultimate 95 and 98 (cause some places didn't have 98! (Place called Kew)

But was quite happy on the trip with the fuel consumption

23/24 litres for 350ks

I have a 97 vtir lude... I put $62 worth (55 litres - full tank) of optimax in last weekend and it lasted me 430 kms, I think that is fairly good considering I hit vtec quite often!!

Hmm...

Everytime i fill up i alwayz clock back the mileage and depending on what petrol i put in i get more mileage. I find that BP 98 octane my car goes a bit further. If i put normal 98 octane like shell i get about 300 - 280km out of it. Which is pretty low. I should dyno tune my car coz i havent done it since my first mod. I should get more km out of it if i do.

I always use Optimax and get 8.5L/100 Kms.

I'm happy with that. :)

i got 150km to 50 litres last week with me driving hard everywhere hehehe.

bahaha your car needs a tune then.

Home -> Phillip Island, race the whole day, and drive back, is 335km altogether. 113km from my place, thats 226, 109km roughly worth of track time thrashin my bitch(never drops below 5500rpm. and i get home with enough fuel to drive my to the city 20min, and back.

hmm, running stock ecu/fuel map. but wiht bolt ons.

well i got mine fully serviced every 5k's.

but in recent even, it become a bit friendly now...average 450km for a tank.

may be the quaility of the fuel? i was using shell and switch to BP

mine is 55L tank....

i think sometime the quailiy of the fuel may differ, such as mix with some king of cooking oil ( what is that thing call again?)

only 50kms difference in a whole tank. i actually experienced it myslef

Moya

For a 4cyl, anything sub 600KM for a 55/60L tank is pretty bad.

This does give me something to think about, I'm upgrading from a Lancer which gives me a touch under 500 for 35L. I used to own a commondore, and it's 500KM for 60L PISSED me off.

Maybe I should rethink and go a Type R

if you want to save money on fule get a 3cyc car, that will save you more.

more power=more fuel

bigteethygrin

not necessarily mate..

I've seen an approx 120kw (at the wheels) h22a prelude that has a fuel economy of close to 600 kms per fillup.

Its all in the tuning matey.. and the programmable ecu that lets you tune it.

lol. Idiot. 4 cylinder cars are fuel economic. 6's are bad, and 8's are pathetic. "Don't buy a 4 cylidner if you want fuel economy.." *sigh*. And the H22A doesn't produce that much anyway, no more than the B18Cs on the DC2Rs which FYI is better than 10L/100KM's.

i think i need one of those programmable ecu's. My car will do 700km easy at a constant 110kph out of a tank in 5th gear but as soon as i put the boot into in for any period of time i swear i can see the fuel needle drop. It blows alot of black "damn im running rich) smoke when i do that too.

they do produce more torque and to do that requires a larger capacity engine which inturn requires more fuel.

Im only getting 8 to 8.5 kms/ litre with smooth driving.

Is that normal or is there something wrong with my car and if so , how do i fix it.

bought few weeks ago, it is a 1993 (2.2 non vtec ) JDM auto prelude with 250kms on the clock.

two threads merged..

vtecmadness.. you only really need one thread to ask this question in..

and yeah... 8.5km per litre is not too shabby 11.7lt per 100 kms.. you'll end up spending way more money to get any more then that

im curios now..and plus i want to use the 4cents off petrol from shell.(save every cent i can).

yeah, when u open ur tank, what does it say on the cap, "use premium petrol only" or something like that. personally i would not even think twice about using premium or not.
bp ultimate is better than shell but it doesnt quite get as many kms to a tank. y? i dont know

my dad has a pegout 206....he gets more per tank from using bp ultimate or vortex 98......gets crappy milage on shell

on my car on the other hand, i get abt the same milage with bp ultimate, vortex 98 and optimax....but i get a better response with bp ultimate or vortex 98....mainly use bp though

Prelude Si and VTiR requires 95 octane
whereas S use 91 octane

i personally use Shell (optimax) and find it much better then others
but BP fell much better

the reason is the way that each company filter and mix their petrol
for example some company (not name any) water the pertrol down(not really add water but u know what i mean) so that it surpose to clean the engine while you drive, which in turn provide less petrol to burn but burn alot quicker

PS dont qoute me on it...only heard it from a friend whom said he read about it

im getting about 400k's out of a 40 litre tank, sometimes a little less...

this sounds close. i have a stock manual 1994 h22a and get 500k's off 50L's (never let the tank run dry), its the same fuel efficiency as my parents manual '97 subaru liberty. and.....i vtec quite often.

imo if ur efficiency for a manual h22a is below 10L/100km theres something not quite right.

if you are getting 450kms it is alright, assuming that you have not fully drained the tank meaning driving after the light is on. Dont forget there is a reserve in the tank which is about 10L when the light is on.

I have a '95 jap spec v-tec and I get 600klms to everytank..... There was one tank when I got 750klmn believe it or not...this was on a road trip and a lot of highway driving....
