G'day guys,

I've got a DC2 Vti-R and im used to seeing the temperature gauge at around the 40% mark, as you do..

But recently I installed a K&N filter and some headers, the car seems to be running cooler (especially since the filter)

Now I udnerstand that more cold air is going in so it is to be expected. But as we all know when the VTEC's are running a little on the cold side it just doesnt feel the same. (re: the old thermostat problem)

A friend of mine said that the ECU will adjust to the changes on its own?

Now that the car is breathing better should it be tuned differently?

any help would be appreciated!

headers take a good week to 'burn in' mate, especially when they are new.

Its a bit of a myth in the honda community but supposedly re-setting the ecu can help!?! i dont see how this would work, but hey!

Give it some time, and dont forget to re-tighten those header bolts after a weeks worth of driving, they get a little loose once the gasket etc has bedded in! Happy driving.

A good tune up always helps! Go for someone that is in the know as far as hondas are concerned, try and chat to Evan (proecu) he might be able to shed some light!

Cheers for your reply benny, you make some good points.

Like you said maybe someone else can shed some more light on things?..

if i remember correctly the dc2 has a self learning ecu so resetting the ecu is useless, it will adapt to the conditions its self. yeh i do agree that the vtecs dont run right when their cold. mine runs best if i really let it worm up before driving. gets all the oils ready to go.

Maybe it's a good excuse to drive it around more ;)

Hey mate, I wouldn't rule out the possibility of the thermostat being the problem, I can't see how the intake could make much difference at all unless the the previous intake was a poorly setup SRI taking in lots of hot air and you changed to a well designed CAI.

maybe it is getting colder outside too?

i.e. winter?
