Hi All,

CD's are starting to annoy me so I'd like to connect my Nano to my Audio System in my DC2. What do I need and how hard is it to install? HU is Alpine 9831. I recall someone telling my Alpine have an iPod adapter?

For a bit of bling, I would like to have the iPod mounted somewhere (AC Vents maybe), ie. I don't want it to sit inside the glove box.

So what mount should I use? I want it to be stable as I like to drive my car hard so I don't want the Nano poping out of it's mount even on a mountain run.

Couple misc questions:
Does the ipod adapter display song information on the HU?
Is there any loss of sound quality compared to burning the mp3 onto a CD?

Thanks

Hey mate,

The Alpine iPod interface (aka KCA-420i) connects to your HU via the AI-NET bus. There is no loss in audio quality (depending on chosen audio encoding method). 98% of my collection is encoded with 192kbps MP3. The other 2% is Apple Loss-less Codec (tuning/demo tracks). I'm pretty selective when it comes to audio quality, and i can't tell the diff between original CD's and ALC encoded tracks through my Focal K2Power/Alpine V12 front stage.

Your iPod will display "Alpine" on the screen whilst connected. You can't see whats being played, nor control it. All information and controls are transfered to your HU. I've confirmed that this applies to all iPods, from mini up to nano generations.

I have mine mounted above the glove box; next to the fan blower assembly/air bag. The iPod just sits in the glovebox. Best thing i ever bought for my car :)

i put my controller under the headunit and mounted the ipod with velcro in the glovebox, realistically you never need to touch your ipod so the glovebox is your best option

Thanks, yeh the KCA-420i is my only option and i think I might ignore the bling and just mount it in my dash. Too easy.

Can I ask how you mounted it with velcro? I want to do the same thing in mine. Did you jujst get that stick on velcro?
