hmm...the rear reverse lights look ghey. if they streamlined the license plate area, it would look nice.

I just checked the Honda AU website now and seems they've updated their gallery - it's showing the new (facelift) accord rear end.

hmm true... interesting
but the images on the model overview page havent changed...
it leads me to ask:
1) had the front end changed at all?
2) are they offering the accord hybrid as they do in the US?

lol i was gonna make a similar thread to this when i got home.

we had 3 get delivered to the dealership today. i like the taillights but the rest will need to grow on me, i'm not a fan of the sharp angles and the boot 'spoiler-light-thingy'

the 2 reasons for the change as i am led to believe are:
- this rear end is what is sold overseas already, so now aus falls into line with other areas

- hyundai grandeur.... straight jack of the accords styling, especially the tail light area

hmm they dont look to hot in that pic. Well at least they are an improvement over the previous fugly rear lights.

Give me the Euro lights anyday :)

went to scotts honda today to place deposit on 2006 accord vti in nighthawk black. the sales rep there said all current shape vti models they have have been sold and there is this new face lift model out in june.

interesting fact about the new vti apart from the rear view looking like a flattened odyssey, the 2.4 DOHC i-vtec now has 125kw@5800 and 218Nm@400.

I am waiting for the test drive next week before putting my money down, though the wife prefers the euro.

im suprised they dont use the same 2.4 as the euro...
the reason i like the american model is because of the v6 and i think hybrid v6 could be good aswell.
with the 2.4L euro i reckon it would be more sensible to also brink the acura TL with the 3.2... rather than the accord that would be mega

does anyone know how they've been able to up the power from 118kw? wonder if it's just a ECU remap or if there's new parts in the engine etc..

EuroDude

Yeah strange how they dont use the Euro's K24A3 2.4L in the Accord Vti.

I mean fuel consumption is almost the same.

Accord Vti AT 9.3 (1435kg)
Euro AT 9.4 (1375kg)

...Euro MT 9.1
...Accord V6 AT 10.4

Maybe Honda wants the 2.4L to perform slow to attract people to the more powerful V6 variants.

According to Hondata (Euro), just an ECU reflash will only gain 7kw from 140kw. You need to change the air intake and exhaust system and ECU (new chip, not just a reflash I think) to get high numbers.

Ive read that the CRV/Accord K24 has VTEC on the Intake only, which is why its only around 118/127 kw

isn't the one in vt-i has more torque in lower rpms? as the US accord is heavier... just my guessing...

EuroDude
30-05-2006, 11:32 PM
The cut-down K24 is simply missing the exhaust vtec cam, lower torque and hp

jamchen
30-05-2006, 11:50 PM
but the maximum torque 218nm for vt-i is at 4000rpm compare to euro's 223nm at 4800nm...so for for in-city driving/constant stop and go... vti "might" be more fuel efficient than euro... correct me if i am wrong...

Saw a white one yesterday...holy s$$t they are ugly..thought it might look better in nighthawk or graphite...saw a nighthawk one today and a silverstone ish colour...ummm no improvement..perhaps the boot lip spoiler will give it a much needed help!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't buy the new design. It's like turning the clock back 10 years. This is a mistake from Honda :( The previous v6 looked better, more class. This one looks like it's back in the 90s. How pissed would you be if just bought bought an accord v6 to cop a facelift model straight away, $$$

Just checked honda website, damn it's here. omg it's a camry.

Meh looks like a saab/camry mixup.

Honda should have used the existing style and slightly modernise it (which is basically the Euro's rear lol):

It aint no Euro in the looks department but come on you put a decent set of rims say 18-19 inch car colour black it would look pretty hard its got a real vectra look about it which isnt a bad thing... look much more like a cruising car then anything

trying to look like a merc e-class rear end.
interestingly they decided on an S2000 style rear spoiler / brake light.
fugly in my opinion... but is it an improvement on the old one??

EuroDude

Yeah I tried getting used to the previous one, but I still find it fugly.
The new one is an aquired taste - just give it time ;)

ps. that 3rd pic at the front right angle, reminds me of the current Sube Liberty IMO

It's not a new accord, just the MMC - (Minor Model Change - Mid-cycle freshening of an existing model. Often limited to subtle cosmetic changes but sometimes new trim levels and/or drivetrain options are introduced.)

I don't like the new rear, prefer the old one, which I didn't like very much to begin with.

Raz (although I love the new euro front end:thumbsup:)

I think they changed the accord vti/v6 because the previous one didn't sell too well? (well comparatively to the Euro :) )
I dunno, I always see it back to the 1994 model but with sharper edges.

no 2.4, only 3.0 6's but the interior is damm classy like an accord should be!

It's amazing how different the Inspire looks yet again! Different front-end: larger grille, really cool looking bluish headlights, and much more upmarket interior. Love the speedo and tacho displays!

What they did with the facelift is they make it similar to the Honda Accord made in China (Guangzhou Honda) ... the lights on the accord has been like that for a while here (maybe 1 year or so...)

can't believe they made it even to OZ lol

That's the facelift version, and the same one that's now in oz.

I don't really see maxima in it though, sorry.

sorry, it does not resemble a maxima (jap: teana). Why does the Inspire look better than the oz model? they get better headlights and a classier grill.

just my 2 cents.

Dito, this change is so American. Totally disgusting. There are some brilliant bold designs, but it makes you wonder who approves these changes. The 2002 mitsubishi magna was one of the worst changes.

Oh, the Maxima link was only in terms of the broad curving front grill in the jap version of the inspire. We don't have that grill here.

OT: talking about maxima's, they should bring the US design (http://www.nissanusa.com/img/vehicles/gallery/maxima/gal_04_lrg.jpg) here, quad tail pipes, hmmmmmm.

re the new rear end, if you took away that stupid boot mounted brake light, the design itself is a bit better.

razaman
07-07-2006, 07:59 PM
that rear end looks good.....on it's own...too bad it's attached to a horrible looking car - epscially the rear angled window. makes the rear look droopy, almost like the bluebirds of the early 90's.

but otherwise the nissan v6's are pretty damn fine.

Styling like that however in no way matches the setup of the Oz Maxima. At least by making the design look luxurious they can say that their drivers are looking for floaty comfort rather than an amazing drive. If the Oz Maxima got that sporty rear, it would be a complete mismatch of car and looks.

A bit like putting in V6 Accord setup in the Accord Euro, or the Type S?
