Travelling at 70 - 80 km/h applied a moderate force on break , they locked up and did a complete 360 degree turn . The car seemed to pull harder in one dirrection when breaking .. any ideas what the problem could be ? the car is a breeze with a eg6 conversion , drum rear breaks ...

perhaps brake bias has somehow moved markedly to the rear, or one side either left or right has failed causing this. Was there any warning leading up to this?

nah none... the car just lost it ... applied a moderate force , slightly more than usual , however was more a sudden motion than a consistant force... it was scarey shit , never happened before. no damage haha except to the tyres smoke everywhere

Sorry i cant offer any expert opinion mate but ill offer some advice. Get it seen to mate by a mechanic. And dont try and drive to them! Get it trailored or get a mobile mechanic. Brakes are something you want to be pretty sure on. I crashed my motorbike because i didnt take a hint from a touchy rear brake, was due for a service the next day, took it out went to brake for a corner, nothing, harder, nothing, harder complete lock of rear, release brakes, nothing, went straight into a gutter and superman across a pebblecrete driveway tearing up my side and wrecking my bike. Painful. And id consider the result lucky. Get it checked by a pro mate.
take care

IMO your drums are not coping well with the upgraded brakes that u have (that's if u have dont the front brake conversion) your rear brakes are suppose to balance your car whilst under braking ( i think )
so maybe changing your rear brakes to disc would help?
if i am wrong plz correct me.
i used to have drum set up on my old EG with the conversion. though it was ok dirving noramlly i noticed on hard brake the rear would tend to slide.
when i took my drums out and inspected it they were very worn (inside) and wont coping with the bigger front brakes

your brake and weight balance is altered from stock so it will behave significantly different under braking and turning etc.
IMO upgrade the rear brakes to some disc items off say a later Si or ek4/eg6 etc to cope with the load and keep the rear more settled

yeah malouf, you're in need of some rear disc brakes. I got a set at my joint, give us buzz if you're keen.

i agree with danny... most likely the rear drums can't cope are the brake bias has shifted.
if you car spun 360, obviously your fronts worked but your rears didn't meaning the rear of your car still had inertia....
on a FR setup it should be the same, but on a RR (or should i say MR) car such as an MR2 where the power and weight are at the rear wheels, bigger brakes and bias should be at the rear...
i too experienced this problem when i had my GT starlet conversion... i was stupid enough to have a turbo with drums at the back... mind you i did a 180* turn at a wet roundabout at only ~5-10Km/h while engine braking

did it CASUALLY turn 360 one way or abruptly?
if it was abrupt then definately something wrong with the rear... if it was casual then it is a Right/left bias problem wether at front or back is yet another thing to troubleshoot in this case....

ubruptly , i was going sideways for a bit then to continued to slide around fully .. pretty scarey stuff considering i wasnt doing anything stupid . yeh will definitly get rid of drum breaks ...

The real story is....
Malouf got training from Ochinawa (Japan) from Hond-drift and is trying to start a trend. I know for sure he wants to be FWD drift king.
Yeah best upgrade is the rear disc conversion. I spun out a year ago or so and slowed my driving down a hell of a lot. I was going down a hill and oil had splashed onto the RH tyre and lost it in the corner. Gearbox had some bolts missing - that was gearbox #1. Pretty scary shit.
Maybe even upgrade the fronts to some Wilwoods and the rears to stock SI discs. Get some good pads and better suspension. BTW my coilovers and cage are waiting for your payment!

well the real story goes... i was on the freeway at like 200km/h and i ripped up the handbreak and reclined my seat and drifted the whole way home without watching the road.. just by the feel of the road.. mr tamagotchi taught me to be at one with the road ..:thumbdwn:

u funny one malouf .. i think you definately need rear disc conversion due to more heat build up on drums due to no surface area to cool down the drum
which makes the friction material heat up faster and therefore you wont have any brakes at the rear ..
whereas if you have discs the disc will cool down and the pad will not get as hot as if it was in an enclosed drum.

Just wondering, could having dodgy rear tyres have caused this at all??
once had semi slicks on all corners.... the rears took a while longer to get grip and taking even mild corners with a bit too much throttle would cause it to go sideways...
