Hi All,

I converted my DA9 over to a B16A last October and have noticed a problem slowly getting worse,

The car tends to bog down and lose power a lot, its not so bad if you are doing a decent speed, but often taking off from the lights it seems like its only running on 2 cylinders, its smooth, just no torque and feels really flat.

Someone suggested removing the throttle body and acid bathing it to clear out all the galleries, as the long sit in the half-cut may have gummed something up.

I have replaced the plugs and leads (it had iridium plugs anyway) and always run 98 or above fuel.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Chris

maybe reset the ecu? see if that fixes anything.

How do I reset the ECU ?

Might sound like a stupid question, but the Teg is the first injected car I have ever played around with.

I am running the standard airbox but did have a pod on it and it did the same thing.

Ok well 1st thing pop your bonnet open and you will see a black fuse box wich is bolted to the chassy of the car pretty much next to the brake master cylinder, it has two clips on the sides push them together at the same time and open the box up, you will see a series of fuses and relays but id you have a look at the sticker on the lid it clearly indicates ECU, form what I can remember its a 20amp fuse (red) pull it out and only put it back in after a minute or so.

Put it back in and close the lid and your hood, place the ignition key on Ignition and let the fuel run to the fuel rail, you will hear the hissing sound of the fuel pump followed by a small click, start the car and let it Idle till the car warms up, but make 100% that all lights, A/C and accesories are off and also dont Rev the car what so ever!!!!!

Once its warmed up turn the car off and the ECU will be reset!!

Thanks for the very intricate instructions, I understand what to do now but have a question, on the JDM cars, they have a light that comes on to warn of the catalytic converter being too hot to park the car on top of anything easily flammable like grass, cardboard, homeless bums etc, could this also be sending some weird signal to the ecu? reason being that i didn't use the JDM cat which has that sensor in it, i do have the sensor but its not on the cat, and the light is alwas on in the dash.

will try removing the fuse etc and see what happens.

Thanks for the advice :)

Check timing and reset ECU (1st step)

ECU fuse does not reset ECU,your ign key does the same thing as removing this fuse.
U have to remove ECU back-up fuse, which is the hazard fuse in a gen 2 crx,so im assuming could be the same in your teg of the same generation.
If dont know, just remove neg battery terminal for 30 secs & read this, but make sure u read all of it.

are you running the right ECU?

do you have both oxygen sensors connected?

are there any error codes?

If its not throwing any error codes, its probably your timing.

does this only happen when you take off at the lights or does it happen while your driving?
maybe a long shot, but could be your clutch going....
this may sound dumb, but that may be the reason... the clutch may not be gripping any more causing you to "bog"...
a long shot, but just covering all corners...
hope that help :D

The ECU came in the half cut so should be the correct one, there was an oxygen sensor on the exhaust i know is connected, where is the other one?

Being a noob with ecu's, how do i find the error code?

To stop the light from coming on in the cluster, u need to ground the sensor input. I have no idea which ecu pin out it is though. The light will come on with the ignition on check and turn off once the engine is running. The only reason it ever stays on is when ur cat has overheated and the circuit inside the sensor cuts off.

If it is OBD0 (89-91), the o2 sensors(x2) are on the exhaust manifold. The later OBD1 have them coming out just before the cat. The sensor on the cat on the end towards the back of the car is for the dash light we were talking about before.

OBD0, read code from the ecu directly via a blinking red LED. OBD1, read from the orange flashing dash light.

I vote check timing, get a new set of plugs (they are 15 bucks or so) and see how your going then.

Cat light is totally independent of the ecu.To disable it just pull the bulb out of the cluster.
See DIY section 4 ecu test.

Hey guys, thanks so much, removed the neg from the batt and the fuses too, left off over night and then replaced batt and backup fuse then ecu power fuse, started and idled for 12 mins then drove round slowly a bit (in my underground garage as i dont have a license for another 18 days) then my friend who has borrowed the car until then took it for a drive and reports its running much better, will get it tuned soon as well. Again, thanks for everyones help. Cheers, Chris
