View Full Version : Wanna get brighter headlights - wiring upgrade?

I want to increase the performance of my headlights, and was thinking of upgrading the bulbs from the 60/55w to maybe 130/110w. The bulbs I have atm are quite good, but I reckon there are better/brighter. I have the Narva ones that are meant to give a 20m longer beam, and are 60/55w.
Would I need to upgrade just the wiring, or does it involve more than just the wiring? And does the 130/110w rating mean brighter (I'm such a noob, lol)?

that wattage of a bulb is going to put out a lot of heat, and not that much more light(yes, you'll get some more, but a lot of the energy will be put out as heat). Likely to do damage to the headlights themselves, not just the wiring.
If you want more usable light, an hid retrofit is the only way to go(this is not the same as just buying one of those cheap drop in hid's on ebay). Basically you'd be putting oem projectors with hid bulbs and ballasts, usually out of a bmw, mercedes, etc. I can't say what the legality of doing this in your parts would be.

you could do that.. just remember that the ek headlights are plastic and could melt if you put too much heat through them from the globes

hid projectors out put less heat than halogen bulbs

nods nods
and if u put high voltage bulb there chances r u gonna melt the plug... i ve seen it happened so many times...

sorry, I got what you're saying
yes, I wouldn't be surprised if running 130w bulbs could lead to melting of the headlights

this is one of the negative effects of those drop in hid kits... and why they're illegal everywhere...
TONS of glare everywhere...

Not to mention they are hella expensive as far as headlight upgrades go...I reckon $100 is the absolute max I would spend on a new set of bulbs.

well, compared to just a pair of headlight bulbs, yah, hid's are expensive, but when done correctly(projector retro, etc), the light output of the car is so vastly improved it can't be described.

I thought the 130watt globes were illegal too...have you considered the narva 50 plus globes..they have xenon gas in with the normal element..they are better than your average 55/60 globes
