View Full Version : Are 17" illegal on a 7th gen civic

hey guys n girls
i know that if new wheels are to replace stok wheels, they can only excede the maximum stok alloy wheel size from the manufacturer by certain amount
correct me if im rong, but new rims cannot have a radius that is 25mm greater than the radius of the max weel size from the manufacturer
now, my question is, did the 7th gen ever come with 15" stok alloyz? coz if they did, then 17" rims are legal
i searched EVERYWHERE, i cant find anymore official specs on the 7th gen, but 06 civic does come with 15" stok, so the 7th gen may have come with 15" stok as well
PS, im just interested, not worried about whether cops will know if 17" are too big or not, i mean every riced up lancer runs around with 18" chromez, LOL

Its 15mm larger diameter than biggest "optional" wheel recommended by the manufacturer,& read this in any case,

Whilst on this topic... if I have 15" Alloys; am I allowed to upgrade to 17" rims on my 06 Civic? Heard conflicting views... also wondering what size tyres I'll need if I had 17" rims in order to prevent my speedo going out of whack.

i did look at the tyre wall at first
thats y i alwayz thought it was 14"
the tyre sez 185/something/14
but i just went out and measured it, and it is definetley 15"
But i repeat, the tyre wall sez 14"
Can someone please explain this?
Maybe you're not measuring the right bit? *shrugs*... I don't really know^^
Wow thanks for the site tRipitaka! It's great. According to that site, my current 195/65 15's could be happily replaced by a 225/45 17! Awesome!

you may be measuring at the wrong spot if the tire said ***/14 then it's 14 for sure as **/14 tire would NOT fit on a 15 wheel.

in case u didnt get it: 16inches - 1inch = 15inches
thus proving the rims are 15"
if im measuring the rong thing plz someone tell me wat to measure
and i swear the tyre jacket sez 185/80R14

hhahahaha this is funny hard, you must be the first person who actually disputes the rim size displayed on the tyre wall with your own backyard measurement…do you measure your computer screen and start arguing with others about the “correct “ size as well?

LOL, yes i am goin to dispute it, coz it makes no fkn sense
y does the tyre say 14 and MY measurement sez 15?
am i measuring the rong diameter? ffs, im annoyed

I've always thought the GLi sedan came with 14s while the Vi hatch came with 15s.

go measure any rims...it's usually larger then what it says...
reason being... the measurement they give you is the from where the tyre sits...
the 7th gen sedans are a 14" but measures out in 15"
so go measure any rim and they'll be about 1" bigger then what it says only because its where the tyre sits that they measure from
JESPER

thats too funny...
have an 02 gli sedan...14" stock alloys...run 215/45R17s with no probs...
hope that helps

 Yeah I was about to say that. The actual diameter is measured from the inside of the rim, not the side arches of the rim.

don't know about you guys but in victoria legal limit... is 2" above stock size
So basically Cops check that sticker thing you have on the side of your door.. which tells you what your stock size rims are

So if you were to peel off the sticker, then they wouldnt be able to say much about the stock rims then.... Is there anything such as a rims which is too big to be leagal?

take the wheel off or if your spare is the same wheel.
on the back of the spokes should say the wheelsize and offset.
you cannot stretch a 14inch tyre onto a 15inch rim SIMPLE.
the machine wont be able to do it.
you can only vary the width of the tyre and the profile.
any tyre shop will think you are on drugs.
