I would say no.You'd need at least +45 to be safe

With +40 offset...

Your new wheel will have the following chracteristics:
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 9mm MORE
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 21mm

With +45 offset...

Your new wheel will have the following chracteristics:
The clearance from stut housing to the inside of the wheel will be 4mm MORE
The outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 16mm

Now have a think about what is better... =P

The first thing you need to do is to look for bigger rims.

lol such a poser way to see the car.
depends if u want to lose performance or not, remember adding 1kg in weight to a single rim is equivelent to 10+ kg in the car. so for 1kg a rim u add almost 50kg to the weight of the car.
larger wheels have a larger rotational inertia, thus u lose power to ground and responce to steering. if ur gonna mod I/H/E and then get big heavy 18s u just waste lose all the power ur mods make u.
given the 5th gen is a luxury criuser with some pace to back it up not always throwing huge wheels is the best mod, 99 times out of a 100 u lose out unless u find stupdily light/expensive (i got a quote on forged ce28s ur looking atleast 3700 without tyres!).
something to think about, im spending heaps on performance and personally wouldn't consider anything bigger than 17s anymore. once upon a time i wanted 18s, no more!
jayse its good to see ur going 17s, if u want performance out of ur car i would reccomend not skimping on the wheels, specially the tyres! lol
