depends what you want out of a car..

do you want more performance ? i.e. ek4 (VTIR HATCH)

or do you want more boot space, and a different look to common ek hatches ? i.e. ej8 (VTI COUPE)

Not just that, but the ek4 also has less km's.

then you also have to think about how much you wanna spend on your car..

ej8: you can use normal unleaded petrol..

whereas

ek4: you'll be using PULP (i.e. 10c more per litre)

doesn't really matter la..
if the engine dies..

d16 is like 1/4 the price of a b16

that was one of my thoughts with the price of petrol.....

b16a = shit & over rated

WTF?
its only like the most powerful N/A 1.6ltr mass produced engine in the world.
it makes like over 100hp/ltr..how is it overrated.

it started the evolution of street variable timing...

it can easily blow any stock for stock 4age(probaably even 20 valve) and sr20 (non turbo)...
and if u match it with a lighter chasis like and ef or eg (available in JDM land) they will rip... gen 2 crx Sir would easily keep with with an ITR on a str8

If you were u work a b16a, it would take alot more money to produce the same result as a b18c... but as for stock they are quiet optimum and a very happy revver.

Not questioning your statement at all, just that can you explain a bit more in which they can easily blow a silver top and a black top? Seeing all 3 of them produce similar amount of power.

Congrates on purchase. As the others said, if you're not too fussed about performance, then the EJ8 is the better buy and if you also got it $4K less then why not.

oh noes..!! the evolution starter!!

they cost the same as a b18c vtir but makes less power.
its just like takumi's 20 year old $10,000 pos.

^^ who said em1 bro, its an ej8 ... VTI - VTIR... two different cars man,

anyways just like they all said, power wise go ek4 (my opinion) or go with the ej8 less power but looks wise is good as its a coupe :P

good luck let us know which you end up getting

peace !

okay engine vs engine
the 4age20v is superior to b16a...
has more power and more torque...

however, the gearbox that was equipped with 20v cars (corolla/ levin/trueno coupes)...had the shittest ratios of all time

typically, when you shifted at max power, you would fall below the power curve

thus, as a complete product, b16a civics perform better than 4age 20v corollas

BlitZ

20 valve technology isnt used anymore.. Reason being is that they found that a proper 4 valve per cyclinder engine work as well as 5 valve per cyclinder... mainly tested by toyota and saab (from memory)...

Gbox wise, you can get a 6 speed closer ratio fwd box on the newer silver top 20 valves... but they cost a mint..

the vtec system is also far more superior to the vvt system in the 20 valve.

it would be interesting.. to compare the dyno plots of both engines.. as they produce similar powers

QFT

Get the coupe and drop a decent motor in it or turbo the D16 and own the VTIR hatch in the pants.
