whats wrong with copying stuff from other forums?? thats what 90% of us are doing when we post something up. What makes a written article any different? They are all jsut bits and bites.
Anyone know if there is another australian honda forum? Just a simple question, not looking for any flame.
isnt there something in T&C bout this?
mercury

well then why arent 90% of other threads being deleted?
I dont think that T&C applies to everything

wow so this whole site must be illegal then. Let me see, just naming a few threads from the top of my head:
1. asian chicks thread.
2. EG thread.
3. DC2, DC5 thread..
wow so many stolen pics...
I tried googling already. no luck. If anyone is starting another australian honda forum please let me know. I will gladly join.

difference between posting a pic up in a pics thread and posting a pic up in a DIY thread is that wen u post in a pics thread, ur not claiming it to be ur own.
however, in a DIY thread, ur providing info for other members, hence ur using someone else's pics or info as ur own, hence it should be referenced.
simple!

but yea IMO ... i didnt know that thread was form another forum or something... i was reading... looked like a good write up.. and i was abt the give rep points to lowEK and then meh.. invalid link...
but no point any of us saying anything abt it.. let the DIY thread starter and the mod settle it. as none of us can be sure the source of the thread. but i would assume if lowEK type everything up. and only use the pics... then i dun see any problem with that... then again .. who m i to judge.

If you want to copy, you have to state where you got it from, just a simple link to the souce is enough. I guess that thread starter didn't do that. With DIYs, it's usually implied that you created that guide. Hence "Do-It-YOURSELF"
In this case, let that thread starter discuss this with the mods if he feels that the deletion was not justified. You are not his mummy. You don't have to speak on his behalf.
Anyway, if it was for cleaning headlights, isn't that LS headlight thread enough already?
mercury
05-06-2006, 11:45 PM
what you just said does not make sense.
do it yourself meaning The person reading it can DO IT HIMSELF/HERSELF. Not because it states that the person who created that guide has got anything to do with the Y in DIY.
edit:
so your saying just because lowek was the victim he should handle it alone? What kind of a forum do you want anyway?
I thought having a "community" is being part of helping each other.
So just because the mod picked on him no one else should have a say?
Dont think thats right.

yeh im confused why u are trying to fight me. Im just trying to make this forum a fairer place for everyone. I aint here to destroy it, hate people, bann people etc. I just want a nice honda community that we can all share and not be deprived of the basic qualities of what a forum should be.
ive joined alot of forums and ive never seen anything as close to this ego-driven, trigger happy , full on drama of a forum like ozhonda.
If its going to be like this we could at least live without the constant moving/deleting and useless banning.
Its bad enough they have a secret section with paid members. The only result of that are people sticking up for the mods that ruin it for everyone. My prime example would be this thread. Alot of people know im right but only reply with mediocre comments.
If i get banned then i get banned. What i wont do is let people say they are right when they know they are wrong.

What I meant is that a DIY is your own way of doing a particular mod or repair. If you wanted the Do-It-The-Correct-Way, then there are the Honda repair manuals (which incidentally are here: manuals (http://hondatech.info/downloads/Auto/Manuals/).
Anyway, LowEK hasn't been back online since. So let him come back online and if he feels that his thread shouldn't have been deleted, he can take it up with the mods. He doesn't have to do it alone. You can pm him to post his thoughts here in this thread. My opinion is that if he copied without referencing, then the thread should be deleted. If he did reference somewhere in there or if it was his own work, then it was not his fault and the thread will be restored later. Why be so worked up on his DIY when he himself hasn't even posted his side of the story?

Copying and pasting a DIY and making it appear to be your own work is illegal and immoral and so should be deleted if found. There's actually laws about it and if someone DID copy and paste something into ozHonda then there could be a lot of trouble. Its best just to be cautious about it.
Posting links to information or images however, is not illegal as it is not representing the work as your own. Its only illegal if it is information or images you are SUPPOSED to pay for.
I'd dare say it'll end up back on the site, at worst in a rewritten form.
Just chill out a bit.

ok so he did say it was his but infact wasnt?
now its true your saying the mods should be cautious about these things, but they should be practicing what they preach when it comes to posting pictures of naked women. What happened to the caution there? Theres no real consistency in their action if that is in fact your justification.

I reckon that in that pics thread, no one is claiming that yhe pictures are theirs nor that they took those pictures. If he did mention in the thread that he copied this DIY from somewhere else, then there wouldn't be any problem and his thread would not have been deleted.

its not that you need permission
the difference is with the DIY thread everyone assumes that the write up is done by the person who started the thread yet they are takin credit for sumone esles work
its just like assignments at school/uni/tafe its unfair if u claim someones esles work your own
not that you cant copy just reference it =D
with the picture thread though its just sharing pictures and im sure no one or very minimum users of this site will assume that the person posting the pic actually TOKE the pics

as for this post, DIY articles arent automatically assumed to be created by the user who posted it. I certainly dont unless they state in the post that they themselves have created it. What lowek done Is called sharing. The forum will be alot better if instead of discouragning sharing of info, they promote it. If by any chance a number of these people dont visit other honda forums, wouldnt it be better that they get that information somehow than not at all? I dont think LowEK copied and pasted the info and expected some sort of recognition. I think it was a case of just passing info around to his fellow ozhonda members. I would of done the same if i thought the information was worth sharing.

How is calling ppl dumb and sayin theyre on crack when theyare COMPLETELY INNOCENT, wanting a "nice" honda community?

Where are u gettin ur evidence to support this claim?
The supporters forum doesnt immediately class u as a "moderators supporter" by n e means!
Members stick up for those they want to stick up for, be it right or wrong, theres NO control of that.

Where in this thread, or any where in this forum for that matter, are we DISCOURAGING sharing??
It's simple, if you share something, you must make reference to where you got the information!! Its legalities ere.
Its got nothing to do with promotin or condonin sharing, youve completely missed the point!
I still havent seen this deleted thread, but im assuming that a reference link was not made by lowEK at all, thus the deletion of the thread.

so having a nice honda community also means keeping quiet when something wrong has been done? I already told you that your misinterpretation of that post has caused your backlash of useless insults which will get us no where.
My evidence is this thread. I know who the paid members are, as i have looked through ozhondasux. If you really use your brain, a paid member section will only spawn a community detached with the rest of us. Info there will not be shared with the public info here. First forum ive seen with a profitable agenda. IF they choose that then so be it, but dont make them look like saints because it benifits you. Its only exposes your agenda too.
and no they are not my comments, refer to page 2 or 3 of this thread and read.

sums this "issue" up perfectly.
Once the original creator comes back online , and finds the thread moved or edited etc they are free to pm the original moderator and thus work something out or even just ponder on the issue. Thats how this place works :)
I strongly agree this is yet another push against and issue which is hardly worth the bandwidth or anyones time. So , drop the hate guys and e-hug me ;)

I completely agree with the deletion of the thread. Mercury mate, chill - put yourself in the orginal creators shoes and understand what it means to have someone rip a WHOLE DIY off you. Afterall, it was the creator that did the work adn took the photos, not LowEK. As well as doing the whole writeup. I think you need to understand the basic principles of intellectual property before being macho about this.
And on a more high level note, I have noticed that alot of the time you do sh1t stir and complain. just tone it down a tad mate :) Its not a perfect site but creation of these threads of hate mongering doesn't assist.

first of all if you read my original post i wasnt stirring anything up. Have a look at page 1 and tell me what was so incriminating about the post. It was a simple question that should have had a simple answer. But because so many people are afraid of the facts, they are automatically transforming into combat mode. Thats another reason why i dont like a section exclusive for other members. All it will promote is an isolated grouping whereby people will form into gang-like conglomerate groups, possesing gang-like behaviours which branches out from the real community. A forum doesnt need hidden circles as it will defeat the very purpose of why forums where invented in the first place. Equality.
Anyways i think everything here has already been said, lets drop this as other people have already started deleting their posts. No point in taking this any further.
I apologise to everyone whom i offended, and i hope LowEk gets the right justice which im sure the moderators will deliver.
bennjamin
06-06-2006, 12:12 PM
The only certain truth here is both yourself and others need to calm down as you too are returning to the depths of human character into "combat mode"
Everyone take a step back and stop using any chance you get to belittle this website and its management. We do a greatly needed job and greatly unrewarded job in anyones perspective :D
Regardless , as Myself and others have said this is something between the original thread creator and the moderator in question , and if anything similar arises it will hopefully always follow the same successful discussion between member and mod.
If anyone else wishes for further discussion its as easy as PM'ing a mod and having a chat instead of the usual excuse like this thread , for people to have a whine at each other and quotequotequote.
