title was a lil vague but just wondering, if i was to change my syncros, would it be ideal to change them when i get a new clutch in or does replacing a synchro mean that ill have to take apart the gearbox?

take apart the gearbox. but you should get the clutch done at the same time as the gearbox is out of your car...

For a FWD car, you might as well do your clutch when the gearbox is out as it's a laborous job.

For RWD, I believe it's less laborous compared to a FWD.

standard cost most places, there was a thread here someone was quoted like $600 just to open the box, thats excluding actually taking it out which is a PITA!! may as well change all of em for piece of mind as the actual synchromesh ain't expensive... if funds allow add an lsd too while it's open anyway...

change all the other stuff too like input shaft bearing.

2nd gear set from honda is $580 traders are about $350
u will need to get box out $400+
to have them pull box apart $600-800
this will be taken out of total amount
they usually get u to change bearings too while they are at it
so just to fix box u wont get change from 2 k easy
best to find 2nd hand box

^^^whaaa? Do Honda GBs require the whole gearset to be changed instead of just the synchromesh?

no they dont honda sells them only as a set
if he can find sychos then fair enough
sometimes its not the sychros the gears are burred too
thats why u get the crunch too

some visual aid here (http://youtube.com/user/EvansTuningDotCom) as to what you'll have to do to access your syncros(check out the diff swap videos)

i have been after the same thing. was going to get new synchros and watever.. got quoted exactly what lan said.
it works out better for me to get a second hand box and maybe so for u.
whatever u decide, will work out better to do it altogether

Damaged dog teeth are the result of the crunching, not the cause of it.

i think im going to cry 2K sigh

ive got some factory warranty which came with my car , thing is , i have to pay a mechanic to pull it apart then get it inspected by on of there "assessors" to say if its wear and tear etc etc

what 'factory'? lol

u have a d16y4 civic which means it's out of any warranty bar maybe a used car warranty, which in most cases is not worth the paper it's written on.

check your policy to see what it covers before they pull apart the car and then expect u to foot the bill if it's not covered

it will say in your fine print how much they will cover on certain warranty claims
it is basically a scam used by caryards to get u to buy the car
and they will always find a way to not pay

i may as well just refund the warranty as ive been told its possible then save up lol
