dont kick my ass for making a thread like this! READ

i know there was a similar thread not long ago:

http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=43673&highlight=member
but nothing really happened...

i know the rules about becoming a member with pq points and the 90 day thing...
BUT i think there should be other ways.

i have been signed up on here for close 2 years (since sep 2004) and i try to help people out where i can...and i am STILL rated as a newcomer
im not someone who knows HEAPS about hondas who can help everyone, and i dont claim to be. and when i do make what i think is a helpful post, i get no points? i dunno, maybe my posts just arent much help:(

i think there should be a certain time after which you become a member, maybe 1 year??, if you dont have the rep.

just a suggestion.

it's all based on luck..
whether a moderator thinks it's worth a PQ, or whether they've even seen it..

but just keep helping out where possible, and i'm sure it'll come to you.... one day..

Does it really matter if you are a "Member", besides the benefit of selling?

i realise there would be a bit of luck in who sees the posts,

but i just think there should be another way...
like being given membership after period of time (1 year?).

i dont think it should be given to people who rarely use ozhonda and dont post anything...but i try to help out and am on here almost everyday!

im interested to see what some mods think about this

i realise probably the only difference between member and newcomer is the benefit of sell...
but i would like to have the benefit of selling :D!!!!

Interesting idea. I suppose that it is up to members to really hand out more PQ points when they think someone makes a good post.

Ie for my post in this thread:
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44898
no PQ points

But this:
http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=41413
Heaps of PQ points.

Anyway, it appears that someone gave you a point.

You have another 91 to go.

For that reason people need to hand out more points.

to be honest..
i don't think there's enough people giving out points in the first place..
if we want more people getting noticed, more people have to have the power to give PQ..
for example.. seeing as the moderators are members too, they choose which threads interest them, and if they see good posts, then they reward ONLY within these threads..
but what about the threads that don't interest them ? i.e. jackosimm/Zdster (Civic moderators) for the "Other Hondas" or "Accord" forums..
Good posts in these threads, are left unnoticed..
and it's not like the moderator for each section goes through every thread/post.. leaving some knowledgeable posts again unnoticed

I think people need to maybe drop their standards on what qualifies as a PQ point worthy post. I mean its great right now that everyone is pretty tight with the points, but the system is supposed to accomodate for lots of point giving. So the options are:

1. To start giving more PQ points every time you see a 'worthy' post
OR
2. Change the system, but then this starts people trying to rig it

So really the only solution is to hand out more PQ points. Ive put a reminder in my sig as a reminder hehehe.

Yeah I think ECU-MAN holds the record for most PQ points. He must have knowledge growing out his ears lol.

6 mnths, and this site has been going on for about 3 years or soo,
the thing is most of the users on here probably got there membership from the amount of posts theyve made, correct me if im wrong, just like other forums.
Now when newcomers complain that they have to get pq points to become a member, most of the older members start to have a sook, and say post up something good to get points, where as they didnt have to do that to become members, just had to do a specific amount of posts

since the system was introduced we have been fine tuning it to get the maximum amout of points out there and at the same time preventing its abuse.

we are dishing the points out like crazy. ( well I know I am ).

wont be long before it realy kicks off as alot more people have there points count when they give them out.

good point - its also probably a bit slow at the moment simply because a lot of PQ points that people give out dont count yet. I always give out PQ when i see a good or helpfull post. I think when these points that have previously been awarded start to count the system will really take off.

Having it start out slow like this is good IMO - if it was too easy, having heaps of rep points would seem less significant.

i still think it's a long way from successfully working..
seeing as one member, has to make 20 (temporary) or 50 PQ points before they can start spreading the love..

myself for example, it has taken ~4 months just to gather 10 points..

serious? We need like 20 PQ points before we can share the love? Oh man, all the comments ive given were for nothing! At least maybe it made them feel warm and fuzzy inside lol. Ive got a whole heap of positives from noobs ive answered questions to, but they dont count lol.

it's "temporarily" at 20 PQ.. i'm not sure if it still is though..
because it was originally set at 50.. but temporarily made 20 just to get the ball rolling quicker..

well its taken me nearly 2 years to accumulate 9 points....... damn, i wont make a difference til near the end of the decade! lol

oh well, i suppose it stops abuse of the system. As its fairly new i cant really expect to have many points. Perhaps i should try being more helpful lol.
